Bedroom Ideas with Florida Colors and Flair

You'll feel like you're sleeping in a tropical resort on Key West or St Augustine when you decorate your bedroom with Florida style.

I'll share some inspirational photos of bedrooms so you can see the elements that turn a bedroom into a Florida retreat. The pictures are from the model homes at the premier retirement community of Solivita, south of Orlando, Florida.

Where possible, I'll include similar products (curtains, lamps, bedspreads, pillows, wall art) in case you want to recreate the inspiration room in your own home.

How to Recreate This Bedroom

Look at the room above and decide what elements appeal to you. Now take a look at the pieces I've showcased here. I've tried to match them as closely as possible to the inspiration room.

Wall Grille with Metal Frame - Available from Amazon

This one isn't as wide as the wall grille in the Florida Bedroom pictured above. I'd suggest getting two of them and placing them side by side. That gives you the drama you desire for the room.

White Damask Bedspread for the Florida Look

Look for lightweight bedding. Heavy comforters are not needed in Florida.

Cotton Embroidery Spread

Textiles Plus 100-Percent Cotton Embroidery Quilted Queen Quilt, Petals

The light colors are perfect for a warm climate. This has a little touch of color from the embroidery but still has the light and airy look we want.

Shell Bedside Lamp for the Florida Style Bedroom

The spiral base of the lamp in the inspiration room reminded me of a seashell. Here's a lamp with a shell design for the base. Perfect for that coastal look.

Throw Pillows for the Bed - in gold or accent colors

Here are neutral cushions or covers for your existing cushions. I could not resist adding some with great tropical designs like palm trees and bird of paradise flowers.

Violet Linen Luxury Damask Decorative Cushion Cover, 18" x 18", Gold

The design is subtle, but it gives a rich texture to the gold cushion.

Mix and Match Your Throw Pillows on the Bed

You don't want to be overly matching, so it looks like you just bought a packaged bed-in-a-bag. Look for different textures, colors and designs on the pillows but keep in mind that they need to harmonize too.

Palm Tree Design on a Throw Pillow

Chenille gives you a different texture, but the background colors are soothing and set off the palm tree design quite nicely.

Look at This Inspiration Bedroom

Wouldn't you love to have this bedroom in your home! You can, of course, but replicating the elements you see here. No need to hire an expensive interior designer. The model home, of course, used such a designer and now you can benefit from their expertise.

White Tab Top Curtains Give a Breezy Coastal Look to a Florida Bedroom - These come in a variety of sizes

Insulated is great to have to block excess heat gain on the sunny side of the house. Otherwise you can go with cotton or linen drapes.

Natural Colored Tab Top Window Treatments

These frame your windows but with a light, beachy feel that suits coastal areas like Florida.

Framed Seashells - to put above the bed in a Florida Style bedroom

You can get shadowboxes and frame your own seashells or take a look at the selection I've provided here. You might find the perfect one to feature in your Florida or coastal themed bedroom.

You can make your own display using seashells that you've found and showcasing them in shadowboxes.

Another way to get this look, is to use prints like the one shown here.

Not an exact match for our inspiration room (above) but it gives the feel we wanted with the varying shades of taupe.

One Final Room to Give You Ideas

Think tropical or coastal or Florida wildlife when selecting art for the wall in a Florida bedroom. The striking lamp is neutral so it doesn't take away from the painting of the cranes.

Framed Audubon Print of a Snowy Egret - for the Florida themed bedroom

The inspiration bedroom features an original oil painting of cranes. This framed print of Florida birds by noted bird artist, Audubon, will give you a similar look but is much more affordable.

This won't take much space in your bedroom and makes an excellent place to sit for putting on your shoes.

I love the way the light filters through these sheer curtains. Enjoy that sunshine while others up north are shoveling their sidewalks.

Those sea shells really make Florida homes different. The thing I like best when I go to Florida is looking at the ocean so any bedroom that looks out to water lifts my spirit up.

Those are some gorgeous photos of those model home bedrooms in Florida. I see from the comments that you also enjoy watching HGTV. Me too! So many good ideas can be gotten from watching those various HGTV shows.

LOVE these ideas. Gorgeous. Not sure they'd work in MD but they might in a spare bedroom.

well, first we would have to paint over the paint squares we put on the wall to figure out a wall color (they've been there over a year...). :) Then perhaps I think adding a headboard/picture would do the most to class up our room. Thanks for this lens! I love the pictures. And I keep hearing the solivita commercial in my head even though I haven't heard it in years! (I live in the orlando area).

@heytoto: I like that one HGTV show that uses a designer room as inspiration and then recreates it with a budget version.

Very appealing! I really like that you provide alternative options to re-create the inspiration rooms in your own home.

I think I just got a brainstorm for decorating my bedroom! The second room would work well with my existing furniture. Thank you!
