what is the rough opening for a standard 8 x 7 roll up garage door?
I am building a work shop and have flexibility in the rough opening.
Your opening should be framed to the extra size. this also means that you need to trim it out, so your finished opening will be approximately 3 inches less than the door size.
If the garage door is a sectional door, make the opening 8 X 7. You can get the pvc weatherstripping to nail up on the outside of the jamb to close off the gap.
If you are using a roll-up (barrel door) you can make it three inches less the door size.
The reason i dont frame a door three inches less than the door size witha sectional door is because you are losing three inches of clearance on an already small opening.
