Is it worth it putting a compressor in my 8 year old Refrigerator?
My GE Refrigerator is less than 8 years old and I just had a repair man over and he says it is the Compressor. Basically he made me feel it is not worth the $ to repair. I am very dissatisfied with my big purchase of over $1800. and now don't know what to do. Is a compressor something that my husband can install or does it take a repairman? Is it even worth it? I am surprised that GE covers compressors for Canada and not the USA.
Get a second opinion to validate the first repairman's recommendation. It is always best to get a professional to do the repairs especially involving electricity. Getting a new compressor does not guarantee that it will survive another 8 years or so. Also, the performance maybe compromised with a different compressor.
Sometimes it's more cost effective in the long run to buy a new one. You can just sell the old one if you want.
