Dogwoods (Cornus) grows easily from seed, they need stratification, plant them in good compost or open ground in the late autumn so that the winter rain, snow and frost can work on the seeds.  Often it is helpful to chit, cut a small nick in the outer surface, the seeds first.  Stratification can be forced by wrapping the seeds in moist tissue in plastic bag and storing several weeks in the refigerator, check regularly for any signs of rotting.
