Being a good listener. That is by far the best thing a real estate agent can do. By listening without an agenda, an agent can determine what the client needs and be able to serve the client well. Then, be willing to admit that you don't have all the millions of real estate laws tightly compacted and ready for recall in your head. Realize that you don't know everything. You just need to know where to go to get the answers. The combination of being a good listener and knowing where to find answers is a combination that beats out experience. Experience means nothing if you are not able to represent the client well. I would take a rookie agent with the above combination of skills over an experienced agent without them.
I think that the thing that makes good real estate agents is making sure that you do your homework on the house that your either selling or the house that you are trying to get as a new listing. The last thing that you want to do is go to an appointment to try and get a listing and you are not sure about the comparable sales in the area.
Another thing that you must make sure that you do is make sure that you cater to your clients. Make sure that you are there to hold there hand every step of the way and most likely you are going to get referred to there friends and family.
