I believe that adding a layer of mulch is an inexpensive way to instantly refresh any garden, container or landscape.
You can select from traditional types like wood chips, shreaded wood or wood bark.
You also have the option of mulching with a more decorative material such as river rocks, stones, pebbles and gravel.
Beach shells and coral are pretty, and will add a 'costal quality' to your beds.
The first recommendation will slowly degrade in time, thus adding a beneficial composting effect to your garden.
The remaining suggested forms of mulch mentioned will not decompose over time, but they will not impart any benneficial nutrients either.
Mulching is a great and cheap way to begin your spring makeover!
