What is the best way to build a safe backyard fire pit big enough for a couple of families to enjoy?
The are a lot of different ways to make a fire pit. From elaborate ones with mortar, bricks, and concrete. To simple loose fit ones made from bricks or rocks.
One of the easiest and safest ways is to use retaining wall blocks. These are interlocking blocks available in almost any color at your local home improvement store. You can play around with these to get any size or shape fire pit you desire.
As for safety, place your fire pit away from tree's, houses, sheds, ect.... Remember It may look a safe distance, But a heavy gust of wind easily carries sparks.
As said before, there are a lot of ways to do this. My favorite (permanent) option is a simple oil drum sawed and rounded off at about a foot tall. Put that in a partially dug hole with a little cememt at the bottom. Place decorative stones around it also cemented in place. This can be done on a patio or in the yard but make sure there are no plants or buildings that can burn within a minimum of 6 ft. Of the pit. Also make sure to water all plants in your yard regularly to avoid fire hazzard and have a plan to deal with any fires that occure (extinguisher, hose, bucket of sand, etc.)
You can put bricks or concrete to use. These are the most favorable options among residents. You could also use ‘interlocking blocks’ for it. Interlocking blocks are pretty popular and you could find it in almost every departmental stores.
