    Gardenias are one of my favorite. Nice dark green foliage with a white flower that can be smelled from a ways off.

      I hadn't consider the gardenia but I'll bet it would be a good choice for our zone. Thanks for the tip.

    One of the most fragrant is the sweet mock orange shrub. It grows in zones 4-8, has beautiful white blossoms from late spring through early summer, and smells wonderful. Ours is about five feet tall and it is probably around 60 years old.
