Condenser and air handler start and run, when it decides to, the air handler stops but the condenser
Bryant unit, everything starts & runs, no out of the ordinary compressor noise.., when it decides to, the air handler stops but the condenser continues (thermostat is still calling for cool.) if turn the breaker off to the air handler and turn it back on, the air handler will start again.(breaker doesn't trip). This only happens with the a/c side. no issues with the blower running a complete cycle on the heat side.. contactor has been replaced. any ideas what I should look for
Horton49 - my guess is the air handler's motor has a dying run capacitor. The motor itself could be tripping out on an overload - which would mean it needs to be replaced. However, it is far more likely the run capacitor is weak - its capacitance has slipped below the rating level the indoor air handler motor needs for it to be to run continually.
This happens, and if you have a multi-meter which can check the microfarads, you will likely find the run capacitor for that motor rates below the microfarad rating it is supposed to be.
I had thought of that and just changed both of them, on the air handler and the condenser, that didn't solve the issue. The blower on the heat side works great & runs throughout the complete cycle. It just doesn't on the a/c side . Other ideas?
