Glass Jars and Canisters

Updated on February 14, 2014

Practical Kitchen Storage

I am in the market for glass storage jars for my kitchen. I would consider a nice canister set, but I am not adverse to using an assortment of unmatched jars with lids.

I like the look of clear glass. I enjoy seeing the color and texture of the contents. It also makes it easy for me to find things in the kitchen, since my memory is not what it used to be.

I will use my jars on the counter top and in the pantry. I have seen attractive displays of glass storage on open shelves as well. This is a versatile choice!

I will not be limiting my use of glass jars to the kitchen either! I think it is handy in the bathroom to coral small items, as well as in the sewing room. Where could you use a new set of glass canisters?

Cookie Jar from the Old General Store

My mother bought one of these about 30 years ago. She keeps it on her counter, filled with cookies for the grandchildren. It is always very welcoming to help yourself to a snack when visiting. Everyone knows she will have it filled with a yummy choice for her family. Maybe I will pass along this tradition for my own future grandkids!

I have a couple of these in different sizes. I keep my sugar in one of them and my tea bags in another.

These canisters remind me of the 1970's. They look nice in a contemporary kitchen, or would good well with your retro collections.

Small Spice Jars

For now I am keeping my spices in their original containers inside a box in my pantry. Maybe eventually I will organize them in uniform jars. If so, these will be up for consideration.

Jelly Jars

This is a handy size for small quantities of contents. I have found a lot of uses for this size jar. I am using a set of Ball jars right now, but maybe an upgrade is in order.

Organizing with Jars

I love watching organizing videos, because I always seem to get ideas I can use in my own home. Here are some of my favorites about using jars for storage.

Ball Jars - A Traditional Choice

Who can go wrong with plain old Ball jars? This is a very economical and practical choice. These jars are simple, well-made and come in a variety of sizes.
