How To Fold Towels And Save Space While Doing It

Updated on July 9, 2017

Yes I have figured out a way to save space

This is one of those things that I was playing around with and found that it worked. To the best of my memory I have always done the triple fold on towels. "Thanks mom".

My job at the time was overnight. This include cleaning the house. And yes doing laundry. Both clothes and linens. Sheets and pillow cases were easy. But when it came to towels some seamed different. Mine were smaller than the others. Did they shrink in the wash? No when unfolding them they were the same size.

What did I do? I took out all the towels and refolded them my way. This took a bit of time as there was more than one towel cabinet. Four to be exact. When I finished there was more room available for more towels and other linens. I showed the other person that I was working with that evening. And this impressed them. Its amazing how something small can make can make a difference. At that point the towels got a make over and folded that way ever sense.

And yes while taking pictures, just like when I fold laundry, the cat decided to join in.

OK I need to know

Who in your household folds the towels?

A story about towels.

Yes I have one.

In the link below there are three trips that I took to Florida. One was me by myself. When I went down I brought a towel. But just to make sure my grand parents had a new towel for me. It was one from Cutty Sark. Interesting that I don't drink but that towel was large. Meaning I could wrap up in it. That was most of my body not just around the shoulders. Not as big as my current towel but still a good size. I the bad news it was used to do house hold clean up. Did not want to try to clean it. Bummer. Sorry no pictures to share.

If hanging up the towels then you will still do the first two steps. Then fold it in half and then fold it in half again.

Hang It Up - Depending on space the second fold from above may not be necessary.

If you want to go and fold towels that is understood - But when you are done please come back and leave a comment

Somewhere, probably watching my mom, I learned to fold both sides in, leaving a nicely presented towel to hang over a rack so it looked balanced and neat and often two towels ould fit side by side, just like you do.

I have to try your way one day. I was taught and still fold mine in half long ways first. Then fold that over in thirds, 2 times. It looks like it comes out about the same size as yours do, but I like the way you have yours hanging on the rod better than the way I have been doing it. Thanks for the tip.

@anonymous: Different people have different ways of taking care of their laundry. I shared mine as I know others will come up with things that I have not thought of.

@GirlUHeardItFrm: The cat in this picture has a tendency to folly me and as soon as I set the laundry bin down with a warm load she jumps in and gets comfortable. I may just have to add a picture of her or even a new lens to show her off and some other things our cats do to lounge around the house.

As a small apartment-dweller, I am always looking for ways to save space. As a cat owner, I am amused to see mine are not the only ones to like to help with the laundry!

@Faye Rutledge: As the laundry guy in our house I like things neatly folded too. But I am sure you have already guessed as much.

@ColettaTeske: Who says you can't have fun while trying to help others. I am thinking our cat as she kept hopping on the towel as I was trying to take pictures. Also it sounds like I am in good company with your mom.

You fold towels the same way my mother does. I used to fold towels that way. But, I'm not the one doing the laundry these days. Good idea for a lens!
