Start Your Indoor Garden With Hydrofarm

Updated on July 12, 2014

HYDROFARM MAKES INDOOR GARDENING EASY

Are you ready for some really fresh vegetables? You want a garden but you hate fighting the heat, the bugs, the birds? Indoor gardening may be the answer for you.

Gardening has held my interest for many years because of its many benefits and the numerous options. This year I decided to explore indoor gardening. Other than a few houseplants, I have always planted outside. The discovery of Hydrofarm Products for Indoor Gardening has inspired me to try this method.

It has always been frustrating to invest time and energy only to find the long awaited fruits of my labor gone or destroyed! Birds, squirrels and other critter criminals got to my vegetables first; indoor gardening will eliminate that problem. This is just one advantage of the indoor method.

It's also very rewarding to serve a salad made with the lettuce and tomatoes from your own garden. It really is a good feeling to know that your time and patience brought these vegetables to your table.

So, let's learn more!

INDOOR GARDENING CONSIDERATIONS

Before you get started with your garden, spend some time doing a little research. It will definitely save you time, energy and money.

THINK ABOUT:

1) Will the garden be flowers, herbs or vegetables? After you choose a category, get specific with what you want to grow i.e. tomatoes, peppers, etc.

2) Where will you set up the garden? The amount of available space and natural light will help in your decision on what to plant.

3) What equipment and supplies to you need?

4) Will this be strictly a hydroponics garden or will you use potting soil? Or maybe, depending on the available space and the plant selection, you'll use a combination.

I strongly recommend investing in a couple of books for your specific type of garden.

UNEXPECTED BENEFITS OF GARDENING

Get Ready to be Amazed

Creating a garden produces some obvious benefits. You can enjoy fresh vegetables year round. You can save some money. But what about those unexpected benefits?

Over the years, researchers have studied the emotional health of gardeners versus non-gardeners. Without exception, those that spent some time digging in the dirt and watching nature in action were more optimistic, more fulfilled and overall happier.

Secondly, gardening is a great way to get that necessary exercise. This, of course, helps manage weight and reduces the risk of osteoporosis. It also reduces the risk of diabetes. And, as we know, exercise improves sleep quality.

MY INDOOR VEGETABLE GARDEN

Based on my research and homework, I have definitely decided to plant tomatoes, lettuce and peppers. These are all plants that require lots of light. The room that will be used has a large window, but I'll still need the Hydrofarm Jump Start Light System..

I will also need the Hydrofarm Digital Light Meter.

For me, starting slow will give me the opportunity to understand the hydroponics system and indoor gardening; more plants can be added later.

TIPS FOR GROWING TOMATOES

ENJOY FRESH TOMATOES YEAR ROUND

Getting ready for that indoor garden? Keep in mind that not all varieties of tomatoes grow well indoors. The smaller varieties are best.

Be sure you consider humidity and heat. This is where the grow lights become essential.

Remember to fertilize the plants but don’t overdo it!

If you are new to gardening or have never had an indoor garden, I strongly recommend some research before you get started. There are several excellent books that will guide you step by step.
