Comfortable Memory Foam Mattress Topper for Your Beds

Updated on September 27, 2022

Comfortable Memory Foam For My Bed

I needed some memory foam mattress toppers for the bed in my cottage. The mattresses in my house were significantly older and didn't have pillow tops like the ones in my home. After a few nights of restless sleep and an aching body in the morning, I wanted a memory foam mattress, except it was practical for the cottage. I wasn't sure it would make the bed any better, but I was willing to try it. Unfortunately, all of the mattresses in our cottage needed some work. So, I started with the one I slept on to see if I could fix it without replacing the entire bed.

First, I researched mattress toppers and discovered that they came in different thicknesses and features. Some have a zone that supports different body parts, and others provide the same support from end to end. Since I was used to sleeping on a top pillow mattress, I decided that the 3-inch thickness was what I wanted. So I made my purchase and placed it on the bed.

The first night's sleep was beautiful, and when I woke up in the morning, those aches and pains I had felt before were gone. I decided that all the mattresses needed toppers so everyone staying at the cottage could be comfortable. So now everyone has a comfortable bed to sleep on during their stay.

Performance Choices

A mattress topper is a layer of softening material that sits on the surface of your mattress. Toppers are designed to make a bed feel softer or firmer and can also guard the mattress surface against wearing out. Most toppers are between 1 to 4 inches thick. Standard topper fabrics include memory foam, latex, down and feathers, alternative fibers, and wool. While a topper can make your rest feel cozy, it should be regarded as a quick fix – not a final answer– for a worn mattress.

Every mattress topper style has distinct benefits and disadvantages. Remember there are different toppers with different firmness classes, textiles, and shapes. Most have been evaluated in performance such as general grade and performance, pressure alleviation, movement sequestration, and temperature distribution. The sleep expert team consists of individuals with various body types and sleep positions to provide the choices that represent the sleeping style of most people.

Read the label on the packaging to determine which will be best for your sleeping style. Remember if you are a tummy or back sleeper your needs may be different than that of a side sleeper.

FIber, Foam or Down

Whether your bed feels too hard too lumpy or you just enjoy n extra layer on top for added coziness, a down or down-alternative topper is one of the easiest ways to cushion your bed. The indulgence of a featherbed with two layers of down and feathers in a baffle box construction keeps the fill evenly dispersed. It's gusseted, so it won't compact, and the outer fabric can be cotton sateen, which implies it's tightly interwoven to prevent feathers from peeking through.

The choice and style of your new topper are up to you. You may have a limited budget which prevents you from purchasing down filling. You will find that an alternative, whether it is fiber or foam, will definitely make a difference in your night's sleep.

Cleaning and Care

Always observe the printed cleaning recommendations for your mattress topper. Most mattress toppers can be spot cleaned when required and with mild cleansers. Using other chemicals on the bedding could harm the fabric, negate any warranty and limit the life of the topper. Baking soda is often used to remove the odor from the mattress topper and balance odors. Sprinkle some on your topper, allow it to sit for an hour, then vacuum it off. Most mattress topper brands state it's best to use a gentle detergent for area cleaning and guarantee the topper is thoroughly dry before you place the linen back on the bed.

Emergencies can happen, and you may have to ignore the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning. I have personally had one of these occasions. My granddaughter accidentally soiled the entire topper while sleeping. I removed the topper, took it outside and placed it on top of a table, and hosed it off using a liquid detergent to rescue it. If you have an unforeseen incident, you can do the same.
