Review of the CASABREWS 5418 PRO Espresso Coffee Machine
Comparing Espresso Machines
Last month, I reviewed the CASABREWS 5418 brewer. This device, which is small enough to fit on my crowded kitchen counter, prepared excellent espresso and was relatively easy to use and clean.
An upgraded version, the 5418 PRO is now available. According to CASABREWS, this machine can preheat in less than five seconds and quickly switch between brewing and steaming. Today, I will be testing this unit.
Description
Although it offers improvements in functionality, apart from the pressure gauge’s color scheme and the "PRO" inscription below it, this device is virtually identical in appearance to its slightly less expensive counterpart.
The 5418 PRO brewer features a brushed stainless-steel exterior, offering both increased durability and visual sophistication. Its dimensions are 5.47 inches wide, 12.28 inches deep, and 11.97 inches high, with a weight of 8.38 pounds.
A detachable water reservoir, securely positioned at the rear of the unit, holds up to 34 ounces.
The front panel incorporates a pressure gauge beneath dedicated controls for power, steam, and single or double shot selection. The portafilter attaches to the group head, located under the front panel, and a steam wand is provided for added functionality.
Included in the package are two metal filters designed for use with the portafilter, as well as a removable drip tray.
This Casabrews espresso machine utilizes a 20-bar Italian pump and a 1550W boiler, ensuring optimal pressure for extracting the rich flavors necessary for brewing quality espressos, lattes, and cappuccinos.
Included accessories are a measuring spoon that doubles as a tamper, a cleaning needle, and a comprehensive user guide.

Ease of Use
The user guide provides extraordinarily clear instructions for setting up and using this brewer.
Space Saving
The dimensions of my 5418 PRO closely match those of my counter-friendly KEURIG coffee maker. Despite the limited space available, there remains sufficient room to rotate the machine sideways and refill its water reservoir.
Preliminary Setup
I removed the rubber plug obstructing the output of the water tank. Then, after thoroughly cleaning the water tank, drip tray, portafilter, filters, and spoon, I reinstalled both the water tank and the drip tray.
Flushing the System
I connected the machine, filled the reservoir, and powered it on. Unlike its predecessor, which took a minute to preheat, the 5418 PRO was ready in three seconds—a clear improvement in capability.
To flush the system, I ran hot water through the steam wand for ten seconds. Then, after inserting a filter into the portafilter, attaching it, and placing a cup below, I pressed the two-cup and steam buttons for five seconds to complete the cleaning process.
Preheating Technique
I positioned the two-cup filter within the portafilter and securely attached it to the group head.
After setting a cup on the drip tray beneath the portafilter, I selected the two-cup function. Hot water circulated through the system, efficiently preheating the filter, portafilter, and cup.
If this technique is used before you prepare a shot of espresso, it ensures your coffee will be brewed at the optimal temperature.
Preparing an Espresso
I slid the two-cup filter into the portafilter and added one spoonful of espresso-ground coffee. Using the flat end of the spoon, I compressed the grounds evenly.
Next, I secured the portafilter to the group head and positioned a cup underneath, with the alternative option of placing two smaller cups to receive individual shots.
Once I pressed the two-cup button, the machine dispensed two shots of rich espresso evenly into the cup. The beverage displayed a dark color with a dense, brown crema. The espresso was hot and flavorful.
The Steam Wand
The steam wand and nozzle heat and froth milk. I poured cold milk into a small metal jug, filling it halfway. Then I prepped a two-cup espresso shot and activated the steam function.
After purging water from the nozzle, using the steam button and switch, I submerged it just below the milk's surface, angling the jug until the milk frothed, then heated it further by lowering the nozzle.
When using the original 5418 brewer, it took about a minute to foam the milk, increasing its level in the jug by about 50 percent. However, the 5418 PRO, which produces stronger steam, managed to raise the foam level to the rim of the jug within 15 seconds. Again, I was impressed.
I poured the foamed milk over my espresso, mixing milk with the coffee and adding an upper layer of foam.
Overall Impression
The setup and operating guides for CASABREWS espresso machines are comprehensive and include detailed, step-by-step instructions with accompanying photographs. Both the 5418 and 5418 PRO models feature an appealing design and can fit comfortably on countertops with limited space.
For espresso enthusiasts, the 5418 model offers a cost-effective option, though it may require a longer initial heating period compared to the PRO model, while still delivering high-quality coffee.
For those who prefer cappuccinos, the CASABREWS 5418 PRO is strongly recommended, as it excels in frothing milk efficiently and thoroughly.
