The Dremel 4000 Rotary Tool
Dremel 4000 review
This is my third Dremel rotary tool and I just have one thing to say about it. WOW! You can tell the Dremel 4000 was designed with it's users in mind. It's high quality, complete versatility and low price make it a tool that's going to be hard for competitors to compete with.

What's different about the Dremel 4000?
It's versatility. The Dremel 4000 is the only rotary tool that's compatible with all existing Dremel accessories and attachments, plus the MultiSaw and Planer attachments originally created for the 400 Series XPR rotary tool. So if you've owned a Dremel in the past, you can use those same bits and accessories with this one.
The variable speed allows you to adjust the speed from 5,000 to 35,000 RPM in increments instead of just high and low.
Unlike the bulky case for the Dremel XPR, the Dremel 4000 case is a flat, briefcase type with the little toolbox for the dremel accessories stored securely inside.

Is there anything not-so-good about the Dremel 4000?
Although it's advertised as having a slim, ergonomic body, this tool is actually bigger than previous Dremels. The new cooling system and the speed feedback circuitry made it necessary to make the handle thicker and longer. However, it's still small enough to hold comfortably. Although if you are going to be doing a lot of detailing work, I would recommend getting the flex shaft attachment and foot pedal.

Handy Dremel Accessories
These accessories aren't things you absolutely have to have, but they sure do make things a heck of a lot easier!
For precision work, the Dremel Workstation is a must-have accessory. It operates as a flex shaft holder and a drill press. This is handy when you need to make evenly spaced holes or tiny precision holes (like for jewelry). If you need to drill some angled holes, you can turn it a full 90 degrees (stopping in 15 degree increments). The angle adjustment also helps when you need to do some precision sanding. Just use the workstation to hold the dremel in place, angle it 90 degrees horizontally and use your hands to hold and control the object you're sanding. The telescoping shaft allows you to adjust the height from 16" to 29".
Here's a video on how to use the Dremel workstation.
While this is a decent workstation and an extremely helpful tool once it's assembled, it does have one flaw. The assembly instructions are crap. There's no clear diagrams and the written instructions are wrong. They're so wrong that I think whoever wrote them was actually looking at a different workstation.
You don't believe me?
OK. Go ahead and follow the instructions. When you feel like beating your head against the wall in frustration, come back here and follow this link for the correct Dremel Workstation assembly instructions written by a very kindhearted reviewer. Or just watch the next video.

Ways to use your Dremel Rotary Tool
The Dremel 4000 can be used for everything from clipping your dogs toenails to sharpening the lawnmower blades. Here are just a few ways you can use the Dremel 4000:
sanding wood (I used the planer attachment to shave wood off our door when it got stuck)
polishing wood, metal and stones
engraving/etching metal, plastic or glass (this requires lots of practice)
drilling into wood, plastic or metal
cutting through wood, metal, plastic or tile
grinding wood or metal
cleaning rust off objects (It was the only thing that took the rust off my sinks)
cutting your dogs toenails
carve a pumpkin
routing wood
There are probably a million other uses for a Dremel. Just remember, no matter how you use it, you should always follow one rule.
Don't apply pressure. Let the speed do the work and you'll end up with better results and a tool that will last longer.
Do you....?
