Vintage Kitchen Décor

With all of the new modern sleek lines and shiny stainless steel of our new kitchen accessories, there now seems to be sort of a hunger for everything old and warm. I'm seeing more and more new kitchen accessories being made to look vintage or retro. I love it!

I have, for as long as I have been married, always collected vintage kitchen accessories. Whenever my husband and I would go into an antique mall, I am always drawn to the kitchen items. There is just something so warm and homey feeling about them.

I must admit that I am happy with our new technology but I love the looks of the old meat grinders, kitchen scales, soda water holders and coffee grinders that you crank.

We don't have a bulkhead above our kitchen cabinets, which makes that area above the cabinets a perfect place to display my vintage items. I mix them up with some artsy platters and baskets as well.

The kitchen scale is one of my favorite items. I love how old it looks. Since it is mainly black without much variation in color, I thought I would give it some pop with the items I placed around it.

I figured that it didn't look to out of place to be measuring the weight of a bunch of bright green grapes. To add a little something to the side, I went with the purple/blue eggplant which complemented the green grapes.

These are sitting on one small cabinet in a corner so nothing else is required in this space.

Luckily I have a lot of space between the top of my cabinets and the kitchen ceiling so that some of the bigger items that I have can fit above the cabinets as well.

This basket, which was probably used to hold onions or potatoes, has such a cool look with the wooden top and the leather clasp.

I thought it looked a little boring just by itself though and so I placed the antique meat grinder right in front of it to add a little more interest to both pieces. I think they complement each other pretty well with one being warm in color and texture and the other being cold.

Vintage Coffee Grinder

I'm very happy to have my modern coffee grinder for actually doing the job of grinding my coffee beans but I keep that tucked away in a small cupboard when it is not in use. It's not very interesting to look at, it's basically a boring tube with a push button grinder!

However, my vintage coffee grinder is just so cute. The warm wood box and lever at the top have a lot of design appeal to me. There is even a little drawer for some extra beans maybe? Therefore, this grinder earns a spot on the counter next to the coffee pot. I found a new canister for the coffee grounds that looks somewhat vintage and blends well with the grinder.

Vintage Looking Sifter By Katie Brown

I love the fact that you can get kitchen utensils and accessories now that look like they are vintage.

I found this vintage looking sifter at our Meijer supermarket by designer Katie Brown. She has lots of retro looking and vintage design items. I love her line!

Changing out cabinet knobs can make such a huge transformation in a kitchen. Just think how vintage your kitchen could look with these great vintage glass knobs. I can imagine older cabinets with these or painting and distressing your cabinets for a vintage look and then adding these knobs. The look would be amazing.

I just love vintage canisters!  I also love the color red.  In my opinion, almost any retro kitchen could use a little splash of red.  It is such a vibrant cheery color that just eeks warmth and friendliness.  Since the kitchen is the heart of the home, it is quite a fitting color!

I have a couple of wall mount bottle openers at our cabin and absolutely love them.  I never realized just how convenient and fun to use they would be.  And, you can't get much more vintage than a Coca-Cola bottle opener.  Your family and friends will definitely enjoy using this!

Vintage Kitchens

I love the traditional vintage kitchen design in the video below.  You can have very modern elements that are still reminiscent of the past.  This kitchen gives the perfect background for displaying vintage kitchen accessories.
