Stranger in the Park, Digging For Gold ???

Planting flowers or digging for gold?
Looking down at my waterproof boots,
l felt glad l´d worn them despite the sunshine,
The ground was still soaked from so much overnight rain,
The grass, so green, it glowed like emeralds,
Suddenly in the silence of my sojourn,
l heard a methodic, repetitive sound.
It was the sound of a spade or shovel
slicing into the ground and the earth being thrown aside.
It was just at the end of all the ancient gravestones.
Soon, l came across an old man digging........
¨Good morning¨,. My friendly greeting,
was met with a scowl and a forced ´mm ´mornin´´.
My feelings in this quiet place began to develop into that of
¨We´re the only 2 people on the planet.´. eerie......
¨Will you be planting more of those lovely flowers?´
l asked judging by the depth of the hole thus far.
Nope. Just digging a hole´¨
Ha Ha, right,. not flowers., potatoes. They grow so well with plenty of rain
don´t they¨
¨l´m just digging a hole, ¨
Üh huh.... er.... ok.....´
Ïs it going to be much bigger?¨l annoyingly pressed on.
3ft x 4 ft and 12 inches deep.´

l was beginning to feel uncomfortable. l wished l hadn´t bothered
to say ´Good Morning¨.. But curiosity was winning me over.....
This beautiful patch of common land with one oak tree,
a few bushes and lots of wild flowers.and an old man is just ´digging a hole?¨
¨So are you going to plant anything.. wait a minute..... l know
You´re going to bury something aren´t you, like a time capsule?.
When someone digs it up 100 years from now, they´ll have an exciting ´find´
Objects from today, a piece of history....?´
Nope.! Just digging a hole.
The discomfort l´d started to feel was now turning into mild fear.
Time to leave methinks.........
Äh well it´s been nice talking to you, must go now.
It´s a beautiful day isn´t it? After so much rain.?

The words were ringing in my ears as l turned and walked away
from this strange old man.
l think l´ll just be grateful the hole isn´t ME size.!!!!!!!
