2007 Oscar Snubs

Updated on March 5, 2008

Oscar Snubs Are Yearly Occurrences

Almost every year in at least one category, the Academy Awards shows a surprising omission. But some of the Oscar snubs are famous. They are not the Oscar snubs that people will be talking about the next day, but the next decade. Below are some surprising 2007 Oscar snubs.

Dreamgirls Movie Scene

2007 Oscar Snubs Dreamgirls

One of the most surprising Oscar snubs in 2007 was for the movie Dreamgirls. Dreamgirls had an outstanding cast including Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson. Dreamgirls was nominated for 8 Academy Awards that night. This was more than any other movie. And yet, it didn't manage to snag an Oscar nomination for Best Picture. Dreamgirls also didn't get nominated for Best Director, another coveted Oscar award.

Other Movie 2007 Oscar Snubs

Another 2007 Oscar snub was for the powerful movie Blood Diamond. It had an outstanding cast consisting of Leonardo DiCaprio, Djimon Hounsou, and Jennifer Connelly. Although both Leonardo and Djimon were nominated for Oscars, Blood Diamond itself didn't receive a single Oscar nomination.

2007 Oscars also had the fantastic movie The Departed. The acting cast was a dream come true- Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, and Mark Wahlberg. And they all came through with shining performances. But the only actor from The Departed to get an Oscar nomination was Mark Wahlberg for Best Supporting Actor.

The blockbuster movie 300 was another glaring omission. Personally, I didn't think that the 300 movie deserved all of the attention it received. Howerver, the cinematography and special effects in this movie were outstanding. Yet, 300 didn't get one Academy Award Oscar nomination.

In the Best Animated Feature category, Bee Movie was strangely missing from the Oscar nominations. Of course, they did get it right by nominating Ratatouille.

Although Penelope Cruz was nominated for Best Actress in the movie Volver, the director Pedro Almodovar failed to receive a 2007 Oscar nomination. Other outstanding foreign language movies that failed to receive Oscar nominations were Persepolis and The Orphanage.

2007 Oscar Snubs - Angelina Jolie for A Brave Heart

Angelina Jolie was snubbed by the Academy Award for not receiving a nomination for her performance in A Mighty Heart. Angelina received several other nominations and awards for the role, including a Golden Globe. Her performance in A Mighty Heart was flawless. And still, Jolie didn't manage to get an Oscar nomination, yet alone an Oscar win (which she deserved).

2007 Oscar Snubs Opinions

And there you have it, some of the most surprising Oscar snubs for 2007. Do you agree with the Oscar winners assessment? Are any actors or movies, even songs, missing from the 2007 Oscar snubs list?
