Melatonin, The Sleep Hormone
Melatonin is a natural hormone and plays a major role in one's sleep cycles. The normal production of melatonin in the body is almost exclusively at night. Melatonin may also be a potent antioxidant, immune stimulant (Enhances T-cell production) and inhibitor of cancer. It is also used as a natural sleep aid and to help with jet lag. Production of natural melatonin decreases with age.
Melatonin as a sleep aid is available in pharmacies, supplement stores or online. It is available in various doses in tablet or liquid form. Most peolpe who take Melatonin supplements report a deeper and more restful sleep while experiencing substantially more frequent and vivid dreams. I use 2.5mg of Melatonin in a sublingual form every evening approximately 20 minutes prior to going to bed. The sublingual tablet is absorbed directly into the bloodstream via the blood vessels under the tongue and in the cheeks allowing for quick entry into the system.
