Getting Started Writing A Song

Updated on November 27, 2007

So thinkin about writing a song ? But don't know what to write? Well, I hope I can give you some ideas.

Usually people like love songs. Those are always a big hit , usually ! Or about a girl , you know, love songs. I don't particularly like love songs. I love rock ! Which reminds me you could always write a rock and roll song. Those are always popular. Some people like blue grass , country musicto relax them and on the other hand there's rap.

A song is actually a story. When you think about it. So when you write a song just think about writing a story ! And I know many of you are really good writers. So just come up with a story and stretch it out and hold notes and most importantly get a rythme. If you don't know what to write about just think of a relationship or a place that you wanna go or a place that you already went to. You can also write a song about the day or what will happen to you at midnight. There is just so much more ideas out there that you can create!

There is just so many things you can sing about ! Who knows maybe you'll come up with a hit or you can sing it to a family member. Just put your mind to it and you can do it. ; ) Good Luck!

Well I'm trying to focus on writing a song about me and my boyfriend and the first time he said he loved me but I have no clue on how I feel or anything, some lyrics I was thinking of are, "When you first said you loved me that night", or something like that.

This is a nice motivator. Writing songs is as simple as you describe here. I've been writing songs for many years now, and nothing satisfies me more that finishing a good one. I have written a few songs myself. No number one hits (not yet anyway). I have written a few poems that could also be turned into songs. Have you had anything recorded and if so where can I listen to it?

Very good article! I have one similar to this, but did not cover the point of view you used, which is actually an excellent idea to getting started.

      Thanks!
