Healed From Leukemia

Do miracles still happen in our time ?

Many don't believe that God still perform miracles nowadays. They keep on saying that we are in the "Computer Age", everything is marvelously done by computers, miracles are just things of the past. If you yourself did not experience it personally, chances are you are among them. Miracles do still happen. Many of those who have experienced it are not really that rich and famous. They are just simple and ordinary people who have unwavering and unshakeable "Faith" in what the Lord Almighty can do in behalf of them.

Among these blessed ones is a woman of true faith and courage who completely trusted God without wavering during the agonizing moments of her ordeal. She is Mary Ann Molina Besinga ,a 39-year old mother from Manila, Philippines. Hers is

a true story that serves as a great evidence that God is still performing miracles in our time.

Mary Ann is a is a survivor of that dreadful and fatal ailment which had already claimed thousands of lives, known to us as leukemia. It happened to her sixteen years ago when she was just a youthful, fresh young lady of 23, working as a junior savings bookkeeper at Equitable Banking Corporation . It was in August, 1990 when Mary Ann first experienced excruciating pain from her hips down to her knees . Based from her own words, the pain was so unbearable that her shouts of agony could be heard from the groundfloor of a building up to the second floor.

According to her, the pain was similar to the pain experienced by the one suffering from bone cancer. She tried to walk a few steps, but it seemed she lost all the strength to move to further her steps. These pains continued for a period of one month that made her family to seek the help of Manila Doctor's Hospital for consultation. After series of physical examinations, it was then finalized that Mary Ann had the fatal ailment leukemia.

"Mary Ann had LEUKEMIA !!" That was the shattering reality. At the tender age of 23, when people's careers are just starting to blossom, when she was just starting to reach out for her dreams, when it was just two years past her graduation from college, when she was just starting to build up her career , she had not even reached the half of her life, she was DYING.

None of her immediate family members could reveal it to her. It took her auntie who is also a doctor to disclose the disheartening reality to her. Upon hearing of her auntie's revelation about her true health condition , Mary Ann's reaction was complete calmness. No trace of fear could be seen in her instead she praised God for the revelation.. She praised God for choosing her as the one to receive the revelation of His glory. She at that time received an assurance from God that the ordeal was just a momentry trial. She prayed and worshipped God with all her heart singing "Forever Grateful ".

Wondering why Mary Ann has so much courage to face death? For by that time Mary Ann had known Jesus as her personal Savior and Lord for more than two years already. Her two-year old relationship with the Savior provided her strength to face such reality and carry her through for the next two years of her medical treatment.

The following months of medical treatment were moments of terrible battles for Mary Ann. It was just like experiencing hell on earth. Her family sought the help of Manila Medical Center for medical treatment where she was given prescriptions for medicines to take. Her worst battles were her appointment with chemotherapy.

She underwent chemotherapy through her intravenous veins. This made her life truly miserable. She had to bear with the side effects of the medical treatment daily which included severe headaches, backaches and stomacaches, constipation, vomiting, loss of appetite, hair loss and even baldness. During this time Mary Ann was weighing only 70 pounds. Also during these trying times, she was not only suffering physically but grieving emotionally due to the break-up of her five-year relationship with her boyfriend. This made her sufferings more intense .

But there were great consolation in Mary Ann's ordeal. .She was able to experience the rich provision of God for her medication. The Lord God indeed provided for her medical treatment. She was able to get a big amount of financial benefit from the Social Security System and Equitable Banking Corporation, the bank where she was employed. Through these darkest hours of her life, Mary Ann was able to prove the love and care of her family, friends and relatives. She was able to see the greatness of the love of her family to her. The prayers of her churchmates and Campus Crusades for Christ family helped greatly. Prayer letters for her were distributed by her friends. Truly the power of prayer prevailed, Mary Ann was declared completely healed in December, 1992, after two years and three months of life and death bout with leukemia..A miracle was done on Mary Ann's

behalf. The power of faith was once again proven. The mountain in Mary Ann's life was removed. She must have a very great faith. And God blessed her faith.

It is indeed a second life for Mary Ann. God gave her a new beginning, a fresh start. She became closer to God after that ordeal with Leukemia. She is drawn into a very intimate relationship with God.. GOD becomes REAL, He is not just a theology, He is not just a figure in the Bible, He is a REALITY and He still perform miracles today. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. God indeed is good and He answers prayers. We can depend on Him, we can trust Him completely for our sufferings. The following year after she was healed , Mary Ann dedicated her life to a Christian service . She started a ministry among the sick and spoke words of hope for them. She visited Philippine General Hospital to minister to some sick there.

In March, 1994, a friend of Mary Ann's sister started a Christian bookstore in Manila and Mary Ann served as store manager there . She worked here for five years. Today Mary Ann is happily married with a daughter. In fact Mary Ann's child is a miracle baby. Her doctor warned her before that she might not able to bear a child because the effects of medication she received are strong enough to kill some of her cells. The birth of Pauline Ann, her child is indeed another miracle.

As of the present, Mary Ann is not only blessed with a loving and caring husband, a wonderful child but also blessed with a good worthy business which provides a livelihood for her family. Her family business "Shepherds Novelty." houses their publication "Shepherd Books" which publishes inspirational and spiritual reading materials for Filipino families.

With so much blessings in life, Mary Ann remained a humble, simple woman of God. She keep on saying that she never deserve the blessings of God in her life. Truly when God blesses it pours. Just remain faithful to Him, and you will see His works of wonder. Mary Ann has so much taste of God's goodness that she envisions them, she, her husband and daughter as one family being used mightily by God for His glory. Truly God deserves all the glory.
