Helio Fin

Updated on August 21, 2007

I’m not certain why, but it seems like every phone company wants to brag that they have the thinnest cell phone. Well, it appears that a new standard has been obtained with the Helio Fin, also known as “the Fin by Samsung”.

There is a lot to like for this little Fin, which claims to have out-of-the-box access to all sorts of features including Yahoo! Messenger, AOL’s AIM Service, Windows Live Messenger, email from Yahoo! Mail, AOL Mail, Windows Live Hotmail, Gmail, Helio Mail, EarthLink email, as well as additional IMAP and POP3 email accounts. That is a lot of stuff packed in that eleven millimeters! And it is still enough to “slip in your pocket without a crease”.

Not only is there a ton of phone and email features, but the camera is nothing to sneeze at, either. Unlike most phones that come with the obligatory 1.2 Megapixel digital camera which cannot shoot worth a darn, the Helio Fin has a 3 megapixel camera with a 4x digital zoom, night mode, and built in Photo Studio for high quality photos and video. Not only that, photos and videos can be directly uploaded to sites such as Flickr and YouTube. All of that is designed so users can point, shoot, and share!

Another terrific feature is the Customizable RSS Feeds for H.O.T., or Helio on Top. This allows members with compatible devices click-free access to their favorite RSS feeds delivered directly to their device home screen.

The phone proudly includes a Garmin Mobile, which uses GPS features, including real-time directions. They provide a moving map with turn-by-turn directions that follow the member in real-time, which will make it easier to get to any place. The database includes nearly six million points of interest, including gas stations listed by price at the pump, ATMs, and even more. It even checks weather for driving conditions and find alternate routes when there is heavy traffic.

As far as the design is concerned, the Helio Fin is uniquely made of magnesium casing. It is a clamshell with a 2.3 inch, 320 by 240 pixels, QVGA display. There is about 100MB of available internal memory which can be expanded to 4GB with microSD. The Helio Fin also supports music files for MP3 and AAC audio, as well as MPEG-4 and H.264 video.

If you want one of these, feel free to contact a Helio location. You can also go online or call the number at 1-888-88-HELIO. You should be able to get it at about $175 USD with a limited time offer.

I just got my Helio Fin from one of their dealer's ( and really like the service a lot especially since they use multiple networks to get the best service. The Fin is really cool as well just like the Razr but a bit more solidly made.
