High Risk Pregnancy Pros and Cons to having another Baby
I was considered a high risk patient when I developed Gestational Diabetes when I was pregnant with my first child. Another factor that added was I had a heart operation when I was 15 to correct my Patent Ductus Asteriosus. during my 2nd trimester I started having premature labor pains and my doctor decided to put me on bed rest. It was such a drag but of course lying all day long is just so ever boring.
Since I had someone to help me around the house it wasn't much of a problem. I gave birth to a health baby boy which made me really happy since he didn't show any signs of heart ailments (it is usually the problem when a child is born from a diabetic mother, I know I came from one.)
When I accidentally got pregnant again only 3 months after giving birth my doctor was very concerned. He told I needed to be in a strict diet since he didn't want me on insulin and secondly my bed rest regiment will be back again. This of course created a problem since I had a baby who I needed to care for; We got thru the ordeal but my second child was born 4 weeks early. He still didn't show any sign of any heart ailment but he did get some sort of an infection which after week cleared up and was released from the hospital.
Today they are 10 and 9 years old, both very active and both very healthy. I was really glad that all the problems I have had did not affect them.
Every high ris kpregnancy is different from one another. Ask your doctor how bad yours is. Then when you get an answer you might better assess if it is worth the risk.
The pros: You get to have a wonderful child/children.
The cons: You might not live to see it.
