Updated on November 10, 2008

Are you the kind of person who likes everything to be in order?

Here is a tip for you to keep your desktop looking the way how you left it.

Follow these steps:

Step 1: To lock you desktop icons into place, first arrange them carefully (the way you want it to look).

Step 2: Open the registry editor by going to Start > Run > regedit

Step 3: Then, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Step 4: Right-click in the right pane and select New > DWORD Value name NoSaveSettings and press Enter

Step 5: Right-click on the new NoSaveSettings item and select Modify

Step 6: Enter 1 in the Value data box

Once you have done the above steps, every time when you start windows, your settings will return to their current state.
