Riding the Wave

Updated on January 21, 2009

The country has been mesmerized

Dear Obama Supporter,

Do you base your expectations on feelings, or on reason, experience, or it just sounds good?

I understand you are riding high on the eurphoric feelings of yesterday's events and consequently are feeling pretty assured things are going to go well. That's to be expected from youth; lack of experience and really knowing your history will allow you that luxury, for you have no prior experience with which to compare it to. However, I can speak from experience and would share with you that you may be a bit pre-mature on your outlook for what Obama will accomplish. I'm not trying to "rain on your parade", but just asking you to exercise a little patience. Let's wait and see. I'm still waiting for someone to show me ONE thing Obama did while a senator from Illinois that gives me reason to believe he's accomplished anything.

Have you seen the movie "Valkyrie" with Tom Cruise yet? If not, I would highly recommend it. When you see it, pay close attention to the historical chronology which reveals the conditions under which, and how, Hitler came to power. It has a very unsettling parallel to today's circumstances. Am I puting Obama on a par with Hitler by pointing this out? No, in my personal opinion, our current propoganda machine has far surpassed the days when Hitler came to power. It has done a far more efficient job of brainwashing and mesmerizing the masses to believing that he is the answer to all our problems; when the opposite is true. It is the individual's core beliefs and value system along with the choices based on these two things that determines whether our own problems will be resolved, not the government's policies. In my opinion, our country has lost its values and is revelling in instant gratification and "feel good" actions without being willing to sacrafice anything. From my view, most youth today believe they're entitled to most everything from the government. And while you may want to jump to the conclusion that I don't know what I'm talking about, try 30 years in the public school system on for size.

I realize you will, no doubt, disagree with the following prediction, but I'll share it anyway. I predict that, before his first term of office is over, there will be many people who had put their hopes in his ability to change their lives for the better will be very disappointed and blame will be heaped on anyone who is not going along with the social attitude that prevails, and/or we will not recognize the kind of country I have known and grown up in for the past 50+ years; political correctness will have looked tame in retrospect. I guess you could call it an updated version of the book, "1984" by George Orwell; just a bit late.

I do not believe that our current economic problems are a failure of a capitalist system of economics, but the failure of our elected leaders (namely Dodd & Frank) in Congress to make responsible decisions which has turned this country's direction into a long-term socialist experiment starting eighteen years ago which has now finally failed. If you do not understand what I'm referring to here, I would recommend you do some research in Google and on YouTube on the term "Creative Reinvestment Act" or CRA for short. It will open your eyes to the truth behind the scam being perpetrated on the masses through the media today. I guess you could equate it to the "Matrix". How ironic.
