Empowered To Prosper But Persecuted

Updated on February 25, 2011

The purpose of this hub

The purpose of this hub is to understand biblically that first of all persecution follows being blessed according to Mark 10:28-30 where Peter tells Jesus that he and the other Disciples had left all to follow him.

Jesus replies no man has left house or brethren, sisters, fathers or mothers, wife or children or lands for his sake and the gospels, but he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time houses and brethren and sisters and mothers and children and lands with persecutions: and in the world to come eternal life. Notice how persecution is part of the package associated with blessing and prosperity.

Second it is hoped to allow one to see the flip side of this principle where Jesus declares on the sermon on the mount in Matthew 5:11 Blessed are ye when men shall revile you and persecute you and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for my sake. As much as no one likes to be treated wrong by another, persecution goes along with the blessing package.

Gods blessing far exceeds the persecution

One of the words for blessed is to be empowered to prosper. Gods supernatural on a persons natural empowers them to excel in life. Empowered people must not sit back and hope God does everything because he will not, but they must take responsibility and be faithful in doing what they believe in.

The bible says that faith without works is dead being alone, so a person can believe God, but if that person does not apply works with that belief, nothing will happen.

I must continually remind myself of this principle in my own life...(smile). When you examine life in relation to persecution and the blessings of God, there are pros and cons. Below are a few examples:

Blessing ----------------------------------------------- Curse

Canaan (Gods promised land for Israel)/ The giants in the land of Canaan

Life & Health ---------------------------------- Sickness & Death

Children ---------------------------------------------- Teenage years?

Money ------------------------------------------------- Problems when not managed

Friendship ------------------------------------------- Betrayal & Enemies

New Home or Car -------------------------------------- Maintenance, Bills and upkeep

Everything good has problems that must be dealt with, and everyone is not going to be excited about the blessings of others because there may be jealeousy, envy, bitterness and hatred to name a few on the persecution list, but the blessing far out weighs the persecution if focus is placed correctly on the good and not the bad.

Apostle Paul

Prosperity is far more than just money because it also involves spirit soul and body. Prosperity of spirit is to be born again while prosperity of soul is to be renewed in mind by the word of God. Romans 12:2a says to be not conformed to this world but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. The soul of man is the part that reasons and thinks and a person who is prosperous in thought will make prosperous decisions.

To be prosperous in body is to be in good health (3 John 2). The Apostle Paul was a prosperous individual who was persecuted for Christ sake. He wrote 2/3 of the New Testament and writes in 2 Corinthians 4:8 -9 we are troubled on every side (persecution) yet not distressed (blessed) we are perplexed (persecution) but not in despair (blessed), persecuted (persecution) but not forsaken (blessed) cast down (persecution) but not destroyed (blessed).

Out of all that he went through...being ship wrecked, beaten, stoned and left for dead and so on, he did not let any of the persecution separate him from the love of God (Romans 8:38-39).
