3 Things to Do Before You Turn 40

Updated on June 25, 2016

Travel, Explore and Learn

Traveling at any age is a wonderful experience. It teaches you a lot about the world and the people in it. Travelling young helps you to open your mind to different options and perspectives. It will also help you grow on a personal level and decide what you want in life. By the time you are 40, you are naturally expected to be settled in and to have a good grasp on the realities of life. Traveling can be done at any age but at a younger age you will have fewer physical and mental attachments to cater to than at 40. At a young age, you will also find the freedom to travel without any limitations or concerns regarding a dependent to attend to. Younger people are more likely to be more open to making adjustments required during travel, and view it as an adventure.

“Travelling will change you like little else can. The world is a stunning place full of outstanding works of art. See it and get cultured while you are still young,” says an article in The Huffington Post.

Health Should be a Priority

Most of us consider turning 40 as the tipping point and intend to take on a lot of adventures and trips before turning 40. But why stop at 40? If you take good care of your health from the beginning, then turning 40 can just be a number and you can continue with the adventures lifelong. Try and rectify some major lifestyle errors that might be fun when you are young but will cost you heavily after a while.

According to an article in Time Magazine, most of us are guilty of believing that we have forever to go when we are in our 20's and 30's, leading us to compromising on many essential healthy habits. Ignoring early warning signs, compromising on sleeping hours, excess alcohol and cigarettes, hogging on loads of junk food, skipping essential meals, etc., will all take their toll sooner or late. To add to all this, technology has given more excuses to stay indoors and avoid exercise and socializing. So, it is better to consider the long term side effects and start a healthy lifestyle early, so that you won't have to worry about whether you can go on that adventure trip after 40!

Secure the Future

A majority of the people will have either have a family to support or someone dependent on them by the age of 40. Have you ever thought about what would happen to them in case of an unfortunate event? Life can be very unpredictable and you don't want to leave your loved ones to face the hardships of life on their own. There should be a secure plan to take care of your dependents in case you are no longer there to take care of them. Getting life insurance is the best possible solution to tackle this issue.

Why before 40, you ask? This is because when you are young and healthy, you qualify for cheaper premium plans. That way the premium amount won't be an extra burden for you and while securing your future you will still be left with plenty to fulfill your desires. Birla Sun Life Insurance further explains the benefits of a life insurance policy in a more understandable way. So, make sure you secure your family’s financial future with a good life insurance plan sooner than later, while also securing your own health.
