What is the FTSE 100?
The FTSE 100 Index started in January 1984 and represents the 100 of the most capitalised companies on the london stock exchange. The FTSE 100 share prices are updated every 15 seconds. The FTSE 100 companies represent just over 80% of the total capital of all the companies on the london stock exchange.
FTSE used to be known as footsie. The FTSE reached its highest level in December 1999, which was 6950 points. The FTSE 100 share prices have been much lower recently due to the recession but as the economy starts to recover the FTSE share prices are increasing.
The FTSE opening hours are from 8am to 4.30 pm monday-friday. The FTSE close on weekends and bank holidays
