Great Places to Shop for First Time Movers!

Updated on March 30, 2011

Whether your just starting on your own (moving out from your parents), moving to a new area, or you just broke up with someone and have to buy "new" things, I've got some great advice!

We all know about the outrageous markups in stores. I mean, why pay $15.00 for ONE bath towel?!? I've learned that you can find good quality items for LESS than half the price at department stores. I'm going to name a few to check out...

Walmart - Everywhere and anywhere, there is a WALMART! They have close out prices on dishware, bath and bedroom essentials. I like to shop online because that store is always busy, and I tend to find more deals online than in store.

Big Lots - This is a great store that offers EVERYTHING. Its much like Walmart, yet in some cases, CHEAPER! I've found things there that were so cheap it was unbelievable! They have such a wide array of options to fit any style you are going for!

Dollar Stores - These, are also, EVERYWHERE. They are great for buying dish towels, glass cups, dishes, ect. They have a little bit of everything. Some have more than others so look around at a few different ones. - This place is nuts! You can find anything! The shipping is usually cheap and fast. They have things on there that most store don't carry like unique light fixtures, cheap sectionals, awesome decor and more.

Kmart - Yet another place that is just GREAT! They have some of the cutest bath and bed essentials I've seen and so CHEAP! This is a great place to buy bath towels and even the cheap ones are still real good quality. You can't beat buying a bath towel for only $3! And they also have beach towels for only $6! Summer is coming up! - Not many people know of this one! Its a hidden gem! They have wholesale items that are awesome! I have ordered from them a few times and the shipping is fast and cheap. They have mostly decor items but it's worth checking out!

Hi ii3, Thanks for the reminders--one thing people don't always think about is the spice cabinet. Big Lots has a great selection of spices at a killer price for filling out your chef's pantry. If you make a list of what you are missing and take it with you when you go to garage sales, you can find a lot of the appliances and kitchen items you still need at give away prices. =:)

J C Penny's seems to have a lot of stuff for a bargain, though Big Lots and Cosco would have a better value at a quantity for someone who needs a lot of stuff.;)
