How to Get the Most Out of Your PayPal Account

Updated on October 30, 2012

As most know by now Paypal is the biggest online payment gateway and has changed the face of e-commerce. For those who don't however just think of this article as your introduction. Paypal works much the same way as your normal bank account but is primarily used to pay for items that you purchase on the Internet. The many facets of the Paypal gateway are wide ranging and have been developed over time to fit the needs of many businesses and individuals. Slowly it has become the default way in which most individuals transact online and even now sometimes beyond that realm as cell phones have become more prevalent. Paypal can be used for many different reasons online and this article will examine some of those uses and help you to get a lot out of your account.

Selling On Ebay

Paypal initially gained popularity as the main payment gateway for Ebay, no matter what you were selling Paypal was there to allow sellers to receive payment. If you want to sell cars, real estate or just small coins or other small items Paypal was what buyers would pay with. Eventually it became the only way you could transact on Ebay as they have done away with cashiers check and even money orders in recent years. Ebay has said that they are not a secure form of payment.

Receiving Payment Through A Website

No matter what type of E-commerce business you are running offering Paypal as a form of payment is bound to increase you revenue. Whereas Ebay is dedicated to physical items you can use Paypal on your website to sell intangible property as well such as movie scripts, songs you have made, software, video games, and many other things. You can create buttons that can be embedded in your web page and people can click on them and pay through Paypal. Some of these buttons were simple while others included whole shopping cart integration. Many are as simple as copying a little section of HTML code and editing the variables to fit your needs.

Music Websites

If you are a music artist or inspiring to be one many websites are built around communities geared to selling MP3 music files and other music related material. Many of them will host files from any music artist giving an average person to blossom into a full fledged artist. Paypal will often be at least one of the payment gateways you can select to receive payments. Many of these web communities will also pay a small amount when visitors to their website stream your content.

Receiving Donations

If you support a charity or run some sort of charitable organization you can place a donation button on your web page or website, even in some social media to accept money from other Paypal users. Also if you have an art project, film or wish support for creation of media or art forms a donation button is the best way to receive monetary assistance through Paypal. Again as explained before it is just a simple matter of pasting the HTML code for the button into your web page. It can then be edited to fit your purpose.

Yes, Paypal has become THE way of paying and getting paid on the Web. Thanks for a useful hub on how to use it profitably. I have used it for years, but I really didn't pay attention to the use of paypal buttons on my site as you discuss. Voted up and useful.

Votes up on this helpful article, terrektwo. I really like the versatile usage of this method. I only wish more sites would use it as a method of payment.
