Essential Inflation News and Inflation Rate Charts

Updated on March 15, 2011

What's the Current Inflation Rate Anyway?

Inflation have always been on my mind, since my economic class days where I heard about the horror stories of hyperinflation in post war Germany.

To highlight the potential dangers of an accelerating inflation rate, I've assembled this page of inflation news and a range inflation rate charts that gives insights to the the very real danger of inflation.

I believe that one needs to proactively plan our personal finance with the inevitable effects of inflation in mind. I hope this information will serve you well in your financial planning as well.

The Difference between "Official" Inflation and True Inflation Rates

You'll be amazed at how big a difference there is between supposedly (but not) unbiased official government Inflation rates and what is calculated true (or truer) inflation rate by taking into account hidden factors likes changes in "official" calculating methods and other government "tricks".

The current discrepancy between the 2 figures is a huge 5% with the official statistics at a modest 3% rate while the recomputed stats at a whopping level of about 8%. The methodological shifts in government reporting have depressed reported inflation. What so glaring is the cumulative effects of these distortions which clearly shows the divergence between the 2 inflation rates. What worries me is that the depressed inflation rate is used in government policy decisions which is will surely lead to unestimating the real effects and threat of inflation on the economy as a whole and the individuals.

Here's an interesting interactive map at Mundi Index that shows quite a range of economic figures represented graphical as different color shades on a world map. This is definitely a site that I will visit from time to time to monitor the global economic conditions.
