Trash to Treasure

Recently the shopping experiences that I have had at local thrift stores have been more than interesting. You box up your used clothes, home furnishings and so called junk drive it to the store and then, the most important part, do you shop there yourself?

Just today an article on AOL caught my eye. A woman found two gold rings in the pocket of some capris she bought at Goodwill. Wow, you say what a find! She is an honest and very reputable person because she is now trying to locate the rightful owner of these two lost rings. Now these rings were estimated to be worth over $5000 dollars. I haven't been quite that lucky but have really enjoyed the treasure hunting anyway.

Shopping For A Senior

I was looking at the clothing at my local Goodwill store and found some shirts, sweaters, and very interesting fashions. Many of these clothes are worn and outdated but now and then you see one item that is special. It was when I walked past the robes that I located a beautiful blue cushy robe. This was a lovely find because there was little to no wear on it at all. Remember I shopped for this and found it in the summertime when our local temperatures were averaging almost a hundred degrees. Not many people want a warm winter robe at this time. That is why they cleaned out the closet in the first place. Timing is everything.

Becoming a Frugal Shopper

What does that mean? I suggest you decide to just take ten or twenty dollars shopping with you in your purse. First decide what kinds of things you need or want. If you find a good buy then be sure that the merchandise is not damaged. Check china and glasses for small chips and nicks. I do not buy it unless it is in perfect condition. To be able to do this you must not let yourself fall in love with any piece of glass or pottery until you carefully check the edges and bottom of the piece. The only exception to this rule is if I find a very old antique which I believe is worth saving because of the fact that I just love it and it is impossible to find many such pieces to purchase.

Check the prices of what you like to buy and compare prices. There are senior days and special holiday specials. I know that my local Goodwill store will offer a 50% off sale around the Fourth of July.

Books

I found a health related book just yesterday at my Goodwill outlet. It obviously hadn't been used at all because it was a larger paperback without any bent pages or telltale smudges. It will contribute to my article writing and information research for hub pages projects. You too can spend almost an hour looking for books on many subjects including both fiction and non-fiction. Be sure to explore the children's books too if you have a child interested in reading. You can lightly sanitize the hardback glossy covers with a light spray of lysol and wipe dry immediately.

To Summarize: Frugal Shopping

I spend one day a week shopping for a couple of hours at my local thrift stores which include a Goodwill store. It is an enjoyable experience and full of mystery. Be ready to just enjoy the walk around the store with an open mind for ideas. If you have a mindset on locating a particular item it somehow does arrive there for your inspection eventually. Yes, a little patience is needed along with some sound wisdom for the frugal shopper to finally find a treasure. Finally remember my trash my become your treasure as they say.

Goodwill Means Giving

Go ahead and fill a few bags of clothes, games, and extra books for your donation. Teens shopping for family gifts will like finding some knickknacks, games or music at a discount. Toys and dishes, pots and pans are a definite popular and needed item. Plus you can clean out some closets too.
