In this regard, maintaining a good credit report is essential as it is the basis of every credit decisions.

Your credit report will reflect your credit worthiness in the eyes of lenders and it is the only report used to determine whether you'll get a credit and on what terms.

A typical credit report may contain personal profiles like social security information, spouse information, mortgage, tax liens, court judgment and even bankruptcies. Essential informations such your bank account numbers, bank balances and payment history are also included in your credit report.

The federal law requires each of the three credit report agencies, namely namely Equifax, Trans Union, Experian - formerly known as TRW, to provide free credit report to every eligible US citizen on a yearly basis.

Note: Although by law, you're entitled to receive a free copy of your credit report annually from any of the 3 credit bureaus, this free report will not reveal your actual credit score.
