However, if you haven’t received an invitation to have a black card, you could still apply to have one if you meet their strict criteria. Criteria vary from country to country. In the US, there’s a one-time joining fee of $5,000 plus an annual fee of $2,500. You must have a minimum spending of $250,000 in a 12 month period using your Platinum AMEX card. Meaning, you must have extravagant spending habits. At the same time, you must maintain a neat and high credit ranking, has some huge assets and bankable properties.

Other prestige companies also launched their own version of black card with different high class features and benefits.They are:


Visa Black Card –Visa’s answer to Amex Centurion, same benefits but annual fee is $495 and only limited to 1% of US population


Bank of America Accolades Card–annual fee is $295, with a requirement of $200,000 in assets with Bank of America, offers concierge service, cash-back rewards, and access to over 500 airport lounges worldwide


Citi Chairman American Express Card –specifically designed for Smith Barney and Citi Private Bank high net worth clients; annual fee is $500 and offers related indulgence and benefits as the other black cards


Merrill Lynch’s Card –no annual fee, offers concierge service, airport lounge access and free flight hours on Marquis jets for $50,000 plus annual spenders
