It's not so much being afraid of them. It's more to do with being smart about spending money, which in this case is a good thing. Credit cards are a gimmick brought forth by companies who like to manipulate people into buying things beyond their limits.
I think they are afraid of the unknown, especially if they were not taught financial literacy. If credit cards are not handled properly they could get you in deep trouble with uncontrollable debt, making it hard to buy a home or get a loan.
When used properly, credit cards are a great financial tool, which allow people to use banks’ money for FREE for about 2 months, earn rewards such as cash back, airline miles, and hotel points, and build up their credit score, which will allow them to get cheaper loans in the future such as mortgages and auto loans.
Not afraid of them. Just hate them. The idea of paying someone later for something you are buying now is kind of a debt trap. What if you loose your job? You will not be able to pay stuff back. It only causes issues. Especially when individuals forget a purchase they made then buy something else to pay for later. Then they will not have enough money. If you are using someone else's money, you are just as foolish. That is not even your money that you are using!! It seems as if you WANT to be in debt or abuse others. A credit score is not actually necessary. You can always pay for everything in cash. You just need a debit card. Plus, why in idiot's name would you get a loan?! Use someone's money to pay back later! I know so many people who regret getting loans. They owe thousands upon thousands to other people. And when they get married, their partner also has loans and they are in debt for years, unhappy with their finances, and get a divorce. Because the number 1 reason why couples get divorced is money. You are just trying to cause yourself issues!
There are just too many problems that could arise and cause issues. It is unwise and I will certainly never have one. Cash or debit. And even then, I don't like debit.

I just wrote a hub on this, but what I want is to have a discussion here. This is the issue: the senate voted on 5/19 to forbid the states from setting caps on interest rates for credit cards. The injustice of this is that the state in which the credit cards are issued, namely South Dakota and...
