How to ask for a donation online

Updated on November 23, 2010

Many people are looking for donations on line yet they do not know how to do it, others fault to get the donations they need because they ask for the donations in a wrong way yet others cannot get the donations because they look for them from the wrong places.

It would be unwise to ask for a donation to develop your cancer management project from an HIV AIDS fund project, if you really need to get a donation, you should be smart not only to yourself but also to the people you are applying to.

Many organizations which give out donations are very much aware that there are very many con men who would like to steal money at any opportunity they may get.  I am very sure you do not need to be labeled a thief when you are not, yet that is so easy if you commit some small mistakes when applying for a donation.

There are some websites which encourage begging online, and I have seen many which ask people to register with them and beg online, many people who want donations have used such forums but money from such donations is said not to be too much. The first thing you should do is to discover which type of donation you want, for example, ask donations for orphans, cancer project or poverty eradication project, then find out the organisations which give out such donations and register with them.

You should make sure you are recognizable; people who seem a little bit invisible can never get donations because the donors will not be sure of whom they are giving their money. In this, you should make sure that that your names or the names of your organisation are very clear, then provide a good detail of your contact information and address.

If you are asking a donation or looking for a donor to fund your organization, always make sure that the physical addresses are clear and also provide information about registration and legality of your organization.

Looking for a donation or getting a donation which genuine is not going to be so easy, donors will need to see a clear plan of what you intend to do with the donation, it advisable to submit a one year plan with your application for better consideration.  If your organization is already in business, you should show what it has done in the past concerning the project you’re applying a donation for.

It is also good to remember that organasations which give donations will always consider first those who have had a breakthrough in the field. So will need to show a little of what you have done in the pat which will present you to the donors as a person of experience.
