eBay TV Sales Limited Time Deal Review

Updated on August 28, 2014

Running to a Sale and My Credibility

As of late I've gotten away from writing about personal finance for the past day or two. But when it all comes down to it, I feel really strongly about making more money, making the most of every dollar, saving more money, and having a great time doing it. And a big part of the fun is when I absolutely have to buy something, because then I put on my thinking cap and turn into Mr. Dealfinder.

10 or 15 years ago my deal-finding would have meant starting with the local newspaper, asking friends, flipping through trade magazines and *gasp* going to the store to see what was available and on sale. But for the last 5 years I've made it part of my daily routine to look at the wide world of deals including electronics, travel, restaurant coupons, etc.

I've become the kind of person that my friends and family call when they need to make the big purchase. "Can you find me a deal on a new furniture set?" "Have you seen a better price on this iPad Mini?" And few things bring me more joy than sharing those insights with others. It's a gift and a curse - I absolutely must know what's on sale every single day, and it only pays off when I need to buy that item, or if somebody i know is in the market.

But i decided that if and when I see something like this, now that I write hubs on Hubpages, I will share with you what i find and if you're in the market, then that's grand! And today, I've got a good one so I hope you'll read along and decide for yourself whether it's worth it.

The eBay TV Sale

So last night as I went around my usual handful of deal aggregators, and checked my email for other promotions, I came across a truly rare and valuable outlier. eBay, the godfather of e-commerce is offering a 10% coupon code on TVs that are $500+. The best part is that this coupon code includes TVs that have already been discounted by the seller, and in some cases, the pricing is as good as it's going to get.

I've shopped and followed eBay for years, and I don't think I've ever seen this kind of coupon code. My only guess is that they decided to get in on the Labor Day sales fun, and that they have a lot of TVs for sale in general. Here's the actual lingo:

eBay is offering a RARE 10% off HDTVs $500+ with Coupon Code: "CTVSAVE10" (Exp 8/29). Many of these HDTV's have already been discounted on top of the 10% savings. Free Shipping. Tax varies by seller.

Fine Print and Details

First, the bad. This is a limited time deal that expires on 8/29. As with all good things, it's about timing and I can only hope that if you're in the market to buy a TV that you'll see this before it's too late. Also, unless you really know your TVs or have recently seen them in action in a big box store or electronics retailer, then it can be difficult to pull the trigger on what looks like a good deal on paper.

But to make things a bit easier, eBay is offering free shipping on these TVs. As someone who's bought a TV online and had it shipped for free, brought up a flight of stairs and set on my TV stand, that has a value all its own. Especially if you're thinking about a big TV (50 inches and up) then free shipping is a big deal as it can be hard to fit the TV in your car unless you've got a minivan or SUV.

Back to the fine print:

  • Coupon is a one-time use only on a single HDTV
  • Maximum discount is $100. (So you get the most bang for your on a $1000 TV)
  • Offer expires at the end of 8/28 PST
