When choosing what type of envelope to use, one of the most basic questions is what size of envelope to use. This is and important decision to make because you can typically save a significant amount of money on shipping if you pack your product or letter into the smallest (while still being safe for the product) envelope possible. Knowing the basic envelope sizes can make your decision easier. From there you can choose if you want to use padded mailing envelopes or if you would rather use flat or standard mailer.

While we all know now that envelopes come in a huge variety of sizes, you might not know that they also come in tons of different colours for you to choose from.  The best selling colours are all below!  The most popular coloured envelope on Amazon is actually a finely tinted one called Wausau stardust, followed by tinted white security envelopes.  Now, onto the fun real reason you're reading this.  The actual colour envelopes.  The most popular colored envelope is red, followed closely by assorted packages that include either pastels or bright colors.

There are many reasons to go with colored envelopes for your personal or business mail.  The main and most obvious one is that your letters will definitely stand out when the recipient receives a bright blue or yellow or red envelope among a stack of boring white ones!

Okay so you need to choose what (of the many) envelope sizes you can best use to mail your letter or package. Here is a list of the most common sizes of envelopes available at most retailer or post offices.

Flat mailer sizes - These come as small as 3 1/2" x 5" and are available as big as 11 1/2" by 5". In between these extremes are a bunch of sizes that should be able to suit your needs.

Booklet envelope sizes - Used for a variety of purposes including mailing books, flyers, and much more, these come in sizes ranging from 4 3/4" x 6 1/2" x 8 ¾" x 11 1/2".

Bubble Envelope Sizes - These are those little envelopes that have bubble paper built right in. They are great for mailing slightly fragile items that can still handle a bit of movement in the post office. These come in a huge range of sizes that isn't worth listing here.
