What are the Benefits of Working at Home?

Updated on October 8, 2012

If you are considering working from home then you might be pleased to know that there are a lot of advantages to being self employed. Not only can you work in your pyjamas if you want to but you could also be financially better off and there is the added bonus of being able to stay home with the children too.

It fits around your family

It’s lovely when you can totally fit your schedule around the family, such as doing the school runs yourself or being able to work while baby is sleeping.

You do the work you enjoy

If you have chosen to work from home then the chances are that you will have picked what work you enjoy doing the most. Some people even turn their hobbies into a work from home business.

When you enjoy your work, it doesn’t really feel like work at all and you are less exhausted at the end off the day.

You don’t have to commute to work

Not only will this save you money on your travel expenses but it will also save you time, leaving you more time to spend actually doing some work or with your family.

No more having to struggle to get to work every time there is another tube strike or being stuck sitting in a traffic jam day after day feeling like your life is going no where.

You pick when you want time off

You can decide when you want to take a holiday; you don’t have to fit it around everyone else’s holiday from work.

You can take an evening off to meet a friend when you want to and catch up your work at home when you are good and ready to. You can be as flexible with your work routine as you want to be, even choosing to work at 3am if you want to.

You have full control

You will have full control over your business and how it is run, but it goes further than that; you also have more control over your life. You have a sense of purpose and independence when you are not being ruled by someone else. You never have to worry about your boss breathing down your neck and rushing you to finish your work as of yesterday. You can work freely at your own pace.

You choose who you will work with

The choice is solely yours who you want work with and you decide on your own working conditions. It’s your business and you get to run just the way you like it!

You have job security

There's no worrying about being made redundant or being fired. You can’t be forced to retire when you hit a certain age and you might even decide to retire early if you are making enough money.

You have the pleasure of being able to pack up your business and take it with you if you move house.

Not only do you have job security for yourself but you can possibly even hand your business down to your children or family when you retire, leaving you with the peace of mind that your work will go on to help your loved ones as well.

You’ll have more money

The profits your business brings in are yours. You can choose how much or how little money you want to work for.

You probably won’t have to pay for a childminder as you are home your self to look after the children, unless you find it easier to get your work done while the kids are out of the house.
