9-11 Truth, T-shirts, and the 4th of July

Last Friday was the Fourth of July. Millions of people across the country slept in late, made big breakfasts, and prepared to celebrate all the things they love about America. People celebrate the Fourth of July in many ways – they get together with family and friends to barbeque and drink cool beers, they gather to watch fireworks and parades and other spectacles, they adorn themselves, their houses, and their cars with flags and eagles and other patriotic imagery.

I celebrated by watching the fireworks, hanging out with friends, and spending the day wearing a “home-made” t-shirt with the caption “9-11 was an Inside Job” written across the chest. I felt like it was the patriotic thing to do.

Most of the people I interacted with that night were friends I had not seen in months, and most of them were unaware of my beliefs involving the September 11th attacks. I was hoping that the unsubtle message on my shirt would provoke some conversations on the subject, but to my dismay, barely a word was spoken other than “interesting shirt.” Only one person, the entire night, asked me if I actually believed it was true. I said yes. Really? “Yes, really, I’ve researched it, and I’m absolutely convinced.” Then we changed the subject.

This shouldn’t have surprised me. A few months ago I sent an earnest email to all of my friends on Facebook.com, informing them that I had become convinced that September 11th was an inside job, sending them a link to a documentary that I thought was especially informative, and begging them to write me back and tell me whether they agreed or disagreed and why. I sent this email to over 80 friends, some of whom I had known intimately and since early childhood, and I received only one solitary response. It was from a classmate I had worked with on the high school newspaper, who had since become a professional journalist. He sent me, and everyone else, a lengthy diatribe against “conspiracy theorists” without providing any indication that he had actually watched the documentary.

I wasn’t bothered so much by my old friend’s reply (well, maybe a little) but the fact that everyone else had remained silent. Nobody agreed, nobody disagreed, nobody wrote to tell me I was an idiot, no one gave any indication that they had received the message. Nobody seemed to care. And it was the same at the Fourth of July party.

This has to be the single most disheartening fact for members of the 9-11 truth movement, the fact that for the most part, the majority of people might not care enough to ever make an attempt to find the truth themselves. That’s all it takes, that’s all that the movement asks. Well, that, and for a new, legitimate investigation.

A Few Questions about the September 11th, 2001 attacks that I want answered:

-Why were air defense forces unable to scramble fighters to intercept any of the four planes, from the time the first plane was high-jacked until the last plane crashed into the Pentagon more than two hours later? It took only twenty minutes for fighters to intercept pro-golfer Pain Stewart’s plane when it lost contact with flight controllers.

-Why was the Bush administration so set against forming the 9-11 commission? Why did Bush refuse to testify before the 9-11 Commission under oath, on the record, in public, or without the presence of Dick Cheney?

-Why did the administration claim they had no warning of future attacks when they had been warned, multiple times, by multiple agencies, including domestic and foreign intelligence agencies.

-Why did the BBC and CBS report the collapse of WTC 7 before it actually happened?

-What were the actual identities of the high-jackers? 5 of the men mentioned in the 9-11 Commission Report are still alive, and have come forward claiming their identities were stolen.

-Why were the sources of funding for the attacks considered “irrelevant” to the 9-11 investigation?

-What caused the pools of molten steel at the WTC sites? Hydro-carbon fires, including jet-fuel fires, do not burn hot enough to melt steel.

-Why did the FBI confiscate the video-footage of the Pentagon attack?
