A Three Ring Circus

Antoine Stirs the Pot

Good Morning, Breakfastpoppers. Today is Monday, October 23, 2017. Our busy friend. Antoine, is at the stove this morning preparing Pumpkin Raisin Muffins for our enjoyment. He has asked me to invite all the Poppers to breakfast this morning. Politics as usual is getting more and more unbearable, and Antoine needs to vent. Won't you join us?

It's Not That Funny

Thanks so much for joining POP and me at the breakfast table. Does a single day go by that doesn't find the MSM and the left wing Democrats tearing President Trump apart? The answer, as you well know, is never. Criticizing the president has become a national pastime enjoyed by extremely uninformed media outlets, politicians, misled citizens and paid protestors. The political climate is toxic, and if things don't get back to some semblance of normalcy, I can only imagine and fear for what our future holds. The unappreciated and under reported fact is that President Trump is succeeding very well under extremely trying circumstances. His generals are defeating ISIS, his reversal of Obama era regulations has freed up the economy and most people are optimistic about the future. The stock market is booming, business is picking up, unemployment is down and our economic numbers are looking good. Of course, anyone wed to media outlets such as NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC and the New York Times would be completely unaware of any of President Trump's accomplishments. Those people that control the media and the minds of many voters would prefer to see this president and our country fail then ever give him the credit he deserves. That fact alone speaks volumes about what is in their hearts and minds.

Political correctness, which is a politically correct term for ignorance, is sweeping the land. In its wake we are left with decisions that put all of us at risk. A perfect example of PC run amok is taking place in Portland, Ore. The police are emptying their database of suspected gang members because they fear that labels such as "gang member" will negatively affect minorities. Apparently, the authorities in Portland believe that less information is preferable. Perhaps they should all go back to the police academy and re-learn proper techniques for effective law enforcement. In the meantime, their hands will be tied, the people of Portland will be less safe, and the gang members will catch a break. Life is good if you belong to a gang. If you don't, it's not that good, but too bad.

A Disgraceful Display

In the center ring of our circus stands Rep. Frederica Wilson. The cowgirl somehow inserted herself, ala Al Sharpton, into the tragic death of Sgt. Johnson. She used this tragedy to ramp up her hatred of the president, and she did so at the expense of the fallen soldier and his grieving family. In a saner word, she would be booted out of Washington. She has betrayed her constituency, Sgt. Johnson, his family and a nation that feels the pain of his death. If not for the heartfelt words of General John Kelly, her behavior would have been even more painful. Of course, the disgusting media managed to criticize General Kelly for his comments, but those who know better respect his message, and his own experience as a Gold Star father. I long for the day when saner and kinder minds prevail.

Clowns in the Classroom

We send our kids to school in the hope that they will learn how to survive in this very complicated world. Perhaps we need to pay more attention to who is in the classroom charged with educating our children. The classroom has also become infected with the disease of Political Correctness. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that police were called into an end of school party at the William P. Tatem Elementary School in Collingswood, New Jersey. A "teacher" overheard a 9 year old student discussing "brownies." The brilliant educator determined that the child was being racist. It never crossed the teacher's mind to imagine that the child was talking about baked goods! In idiotic fashion, the teacher did what she thought best under the circumstances. She called in the police! Should this teacher be instructing children? The answer is no, she should not. In a saner world, she would be dismissed. I long for that day.

An Ugly Trend

If we are to return to some semblance of sanity in our nation, we need to let the calmer and saner voices control the dialogue. We cannot allow people like Rep. Wilson to take over the air waves. We cannot allow teachers who call the police on a nine- year old into our classrooms. We cannot permit community pressure to influence police departments like that in Portland. There are plenty of decent people in our nation, but they don't make for good headlines. I think it's time they should.
