Introduction

I don't trust polls. There are too many ways how a poll can be skewed. In 2020, polls have shown the American public is not happy with the direction of our country. How can that be? In a time when we have a record low unemployment, and record high of the Stock market, and generally peace around the globe, why are the American people so dissatisfied?

- Fed. 2020

Background

Is there a disconnect between reality and perception? It seems that is the case. If you believe the polls, it means a majority of Americans are not experiencing the same economic boom that is taking our country by storm. Who are these people and why are they so dissatisfied?

Compare this period to 2008 when the country was in a deep recession. Just 12 short years ago, our country was in turmoil.

Something does not compute. The economy is night and day between the two time periods. Yet, the poll has the same number of people by percent, who thinks our country is heading in the wrong direction.

What Will Make the People Happy?

Perhaps, a better question to ask is what will make America happy? How do we turn public opinion around? Who is setting the agenda?

If you listen to the Democratic candidates running for President, they seem to think the people want "free" stuff. Free higher education, free healthcare, free money in the form of universal basic income.

Income inequality is another mantra of the left. Will equality of income be the answer to make people satisfied?

How about socialism? That is what Bernie Sanders is selling. He seems to draw a crowd of young people who follows the AOC and the squad.

Will the people really be happy with a democratic socialism type of government?

My Assessment

If we take the politics away, and just look at the state of the country, we are in pretty good shape.

Take away the impeachment of the President.

Take away the media bashing of Trump and the GOP.

Take away the Coronavirus scare.

You are left with:

A DOW at record 29,000.

An unemployment rate of 3.1%.

Gasoline prices at almost record low of $2.60 a gallon.

A US that is energy independent and an Oil and Gas exporter.

Consumer sentiment rising to a high of 99.8%.

Food stamps participation at a low of 34 million.

Who Are Dissatisfied? and Satisfied?

The people who are complaining are from a few camps.

  • Most liberal Democrats
  • Politicians of both parties, including Adam Schiff, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan and Jeff Flake...
  • People in the Beltway - James Comey, John Brennan, Susan Rice, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page...
  • People in Hollywood, Robert de Niro, Barbara Streisand...
  • People in the media - Chuck Todd, Don Lemmon, Rachel Maddow, Jeff Tobin, Steven Colbert...
  • Academia - 500 law professors...

The people who supports Trump.

  • CEOs at DAVOS
  • Kanye West
  • Conservatives like Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin
  • Religious groups
  • The "deplorable" American people

Summary

Three years after the election of President Trump, despite all the distractions of the Mueller investigation and impeachment...the State of the Union is in great shape. We have new trade deals with China and our neighbors. We have a booming economy and high public sentiments. We have a President we is unfazed by all the attacks. He has delivered on his promises. America is Great Again.

For those with dissenting opinion, I like to hear from you. Please indicate in the comment section what specific item would make you more satisfied? Better job opportunity? Better healthcare? a cleaner environment? better education opportunity?...Improved race relations, less wars, reduced gun violence, stop terrorism...
