Introduction

I don't trust polls. There are too many ways how a poll can be skewed. In 2020, polls have shown the American public is not happy with the direction of our country. How can that be? In a time when we have a record low unemployment, and record high of the Stock market, and generally peace around the globe, why are the American people so dissatisfied?

- Fed. 2020

Background

Is there a disconnect between reality and perception? It seems that is the case. If you believe the polls, it means a majority of Americans are not experiencing the same economic boom that is taking our country by storm. Who are these people and why are they so dissatisfied?

Compare this period to 2008 when the country was in a deep recession. Just 12 short years ago, our country was in turmoil.

Something does not compute. The economy is night and day between the two time periods. Yet, the poll has the same number of people by percent, who thinks our country is heading in the wrong direction.

What Will Make the People Happy?

Perhaps, a better question to ask is what will make America happy? How do we turn public opinion around? Who is setting the agenda?

If you listen to the Democratic candidates running for President, they seem to think the people want "free" stuff. Free higher education, free healthcare, free money in the form of universal basic income.

Income inequality is another mantra of the left. Will equality of income be the answer to make people satisfied?

How about socialism? That is what Bernie Sanders is selling. He seems to draw a crowd of young people who follows the AOC and the squad.

Will the people really be happy with a democratic socialism type of government?

My Assessment

If we take the politics away, and just look at the state of the country, we are in pretty good shape.

Take away the impeachment of the President.

Take away the media bashing of Trump and the GOP.

Take away the Coronavirus scare.

You are left with:

A DOW at record 29,000.

An unemployment rate of 3.1%.

Gasoline prices at almost record low of $2.60 a gallon.

A US that is energy independent and an Oil and Gas exporter.

Consumer sentiment rising to a high of 99.8%.

Food stamps participation at a low of 34 million.

Who Are Dissatisfied? and Satisfied?

The people who are complaining are from a few camps.

  • Most liberal Democrats
  • Politicians of both parties, including Adam Schiff, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan and Jeff Flake...
  • People in the Beltway - James Comey, John Brennan, Susan Rice, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page...
  • People in Hollywood, Robert de Niro, Barbara Streisand...
  • People in the media - Chuck Todd, Don Lemmon, Rachel Maddow, Jeff Tobin, Steven Colbert...
  • Academia - 500 law professors...

The people who supports Trump.

  • CEOs at DAVOS
  • Kanye West
  • Conservatives like Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin
  • Religious groups
  • The "deplorable" American people

Summary

Three years after the election of President Trump, despite all the distractions of the Mueller investigation and impeachment...the State of the Union is in great shape. We have new trade deals with China and our neighbors. We have a booming economy and high public sentiments. We have a President we is unfazed by all the attacks. He has delivered on his promises. America is Great Again.

For those with dissenting opinion, I like to hear from you. Please indicate in the comment section what specific item would make you more satisfied? Better job opportunity? Better healthcare? a cleaner environment? better education opportunity?...Improved race relations, less wars, reduced gun violence, stop terrorism...

Marie, thanks for your extensive response. you have a long list of wish lists. I agree with some but not all. I think one way to put things in perspective is the role of government. There are somethings a government can do and some things individual or private sector can and should do.

In life, there is no perfection. Sometimes, we need to accept the reality that somethings are never going to be. We don't live in a utopian society.

Each individual chooses whether to be happy or not. Polls do not cover every American citizen's opinion. I, for one, was never approached to anticipate in a poll about my happiness in the United States!

Am I happy? For the most part, yes. What would make my rating for this country 100%? Well, I wish there were more efficient mass transportation systems using solar, magnetics, or crystal energy. The air we breathe, global warming or not, has to be clean.

I would like pharmaceutical companies to disappear and be replaced by energy alignment treatments, local organically grown food (greenhouses are fine), and physical fitness.

The desert areas of our country could become irrigated through nanotech desalinization. Water from areas that flood could be diverted to areas of lesser rainfall (instead of oil pipelines).

I like the law in France that requires either solar panels or gardens to cover rooftops. The United States should have something similar.

I would love to see most plastics disappear. There are concerns about pollutants in the manufacture and in the use of plastics. Even as parts in appliances, these types of material tend to become brittle and break. Products, such as household appliances, should be made to last a generation (at least 24-25 years).

Chemical herbicides and pesticides should be outlawed. In working with nature, excellent produce and beautiful landscapes can be accomplished when the principles of balance are understood and used.

I'd love for our country to avoid war-like skirmishes and battles abroad. There should be a much greater emphasis on diplomacy and respect for others' cultures. I understand that greed for power and land by the few does require defense. The United Nations could be a better tool for the defense of our planet.

Income tax should be simplified and eventually eliminated. Wouldn't it be nice if the economy had its own system of checks and balances as our Constitution? The free enterprise system in accordance with supply and demand for the consumer's well being, not merely to increase the corporate pocketbook would be amazing.

So, yes, I believe we have some things to accomplish. I don't expect it in my lifetime, but I believe we will eventually get there.

      Blessings!

Shoot I have lived enough places that the only nation that we can compare our nation to is us.

If someone is not satisfied they should schedule a trip to say someplace like Venezuela.

      An honest assessment indeed!

You might add to “Who Are Dissatisfied?“

Everyone on the looney left including the global warming alarmists who basically are all people who make a living or a lot of money by promoting that hoax as they fly chartered planes or buy ocean front property but telling us to get rid of suvs and the oceans are going to gobble up ocean front property!

      Hypocrites all.
