The Australian federal elections 2019

Dear readers, in the middle of all these problems that we have in Australia, about the drought, the assets test and other things that we have written in our previous articles, there is one more thing to worry about, the Australian elections.

Anyhow, it has taken a while for the present prime minister Scott Morrison to call the 2019 federal election. Now it has been called and it is going to be held the 18^th of May 2019. So, who is going to be the prime minister of Australia after these elections? We don’t know, but the odds are in favour of the Labour party at the beginning, and Bill Shorten being their leader, he could become the new prime minister of Australia; but we can never know. Anyhow, the political parties start advertising themselves and telling us, what they are going to do for us, if we vote them in and they form government.

Now, Bill Shorten and his Labour party have the reputation of spending too much and charging more tax to the people. So, it is going to be hard to say who is going to win. You see, it also depends about other policies and because the coalition has been in government for some time, so, people may want to change.

Anyhow, I believe that it is better for everybody, when the economy is stable and there is no deficit, but it is up to the people to choose if they want a stable economy, or they prefer that the government spends more, for better services to the public and other things, because this is what the Labour party does, spend now and pay later. Anyhow, both parties have problems in running the economy properly, because there are times when, the Coalition makes mistakes, because they are careless, and they don’t work out what is going to happen to the people involved. One of these things was when they change the assets test 5 years ago. as we are going to mention this in this article and perhaps write another article to explain what we see is wrong but let us see what is happening right now.

Today on Facebook, on one of the posts was saying that the Labour party has removed his Internet post about, its negative gearing policies, then later on, another policy has been removed about other taxes or spending, it sound like a cover up, but I don’t know what to think. Anyhow, let us look at what is in for me in these elections.

Because everyone of us have different financial needs, we are looking at the election promises to see what is in for me. We are looking at what they are promising to do, if they form government, and from that work out, if what they are doing is going to help us financially in the future. I know that this sounds selfish; but that is what everybody does, even when they tell you otherwise.

Anyhow, I have looked at the main parties’ policies and what they want to do, at the beginning of this political campaign, and while they promise us a lot of things, which can be good if they are done, I am not interested in them much, because they don’t help me at all. You see, what I wanted to see, is not even mentioned in this election campaign, so, for me it is disappointing to see that we are going to miss out, on what we think, it needs to be done.

So, we want to tell the world why we are disappointed. Anyhow, in a way we are lucky here, because we can voice our concerns for free and have our say. We are also lucky here, because we don’t need to be a politician to take part in the elections, since we can write our personal point of views ourselves in a public forum; hoping that what we are writing reaches some politicians, and if it does, they can do something about our concerns. Anyhow, we have written The Assets Test Dilemma, where we say a few things about what needs to be done.

Now, everyone of us have our own concerns, so, we should try to make them known to those people that want to be in power, so that they can make it a political issue if they want, while the election is going on, or at least take notice of what we are talking about, and can do something when they will be in power, after the elections have taken place. So, now let me talk about my personal concerns.

Years ago, the federal government made a great mistake, because they changed the assets test on the pensions, without working out that the small property owners would get less money than those who are on a simple pension with no assets and no earnings. Here I want to point out that I am talking about the small property owners, which most times is a family that owns a second property that rents to earn some money. But when any of these people that have a second property to rent become pensioners, this property they have become a problem to them, because they lose money.

Anyhow, this issue I am going to write about it in my next article, because it is not easy to show you, why the pensioners are losing money. Now this is one of my main concerns, and we believe that to be fair the pension must work out to be at least equal for everybody. Anyhow, since then the pensioners that have lost the most have complaint about it. But nobody does anything for them. This is my main concern, because it is election time and they don’t even mention it, in the policies they are talking about at this election. I believe that they don’t want to mention it, because they don’t want to admit that they made a mistake. what else can it be?

In my personal views, if they don’t believe they made a mistake, they are not looking at what they did, and they don’t want to know what they did, it is that simple. Both the major parties are thinking the same, since both have approved this assets test change. Now since they are not going to gain votes, by talking about it, they don’t want to talk about it. Anyhow, they don’t see that the party that says that they are going to look and change the assets test on properties, will receive the votes of all those small property owners, that lost the government pension or part of the government pension.

I hope that gaining of a few votes, will wake them up and do something about it, or at least talk about it in these elections. But as I have said, this issue is not easy to understand, unless you work it out yourself, or it is properly explained in detail to you.
