Craigslist: Adultery, Murder and Free Ads

Updated on February 23, 2022

Craigslist Related Crimes

There's so much going on with Craigslist.org that I wonder why it still carries the .org to it. It is clearly commercially used and maintained by ads. We have all heard of the Craiglist killers, robbers, rapist, etc but there's one crime that goes unscathed and that's adultery. Now, before I get into that I would like to first give you some basic history of the domain and it's intentions and second, information on the streaks of crime stemming from the website's use.

Craigslist was finalized in 1995 by Jewish Jersey native Craig Newmark out of San Fransisco. Originally the site was founded as an email distribution list of friends featuring information on current and upcoming events in the San Fransisco area. Eventually friends and friends of their friends started placing ads irrelevant to the site's purpose but Craig saw this as an opportunity to expand. Ultimately it did and almost since the beginning crime was allotted with the website.

There has been two known Craiglist killers that targeted woman prostitutes but did you know a third guy is still doing it to this day? On Long Island there is a serial Craiglist killer who is unidentified by authorities. Bags of body parts have been showing up all over Suffolk County.

Here are 2 known killers that used Craigslist and their victims + news story:

Phillip Markoff was a medical student from Boston, Massachusetts who was charged and convicted of the armed robbery and murder of Julissa Brisman on April 14, 2009. Julissa Brisman had an ad up on CG under the erotic services section in which Phillip Markoff responded to. Phillip Markoff was found dead of an apparent suicide on August 15, 2010 while awaiting trial in a Boston jail. Phillip Markoff was facing time for murder and 3 other robberies which all took place within the same week.

Michael John Anderson is a 19 year old Minnesotan who was charged with the murder of Katherine Anne Olson in October 2007. Katherine was a 24-year-old student that attended Saint Olaf College. Katherine had responded to an ad for a woman needing a nanny for her 5 year old son. Michael had been wanting to kill someone and placed an ad up to accompany his yearning and shot the 24 year old student in the back when she came to his house.

On Long Island body parts of woman have been popping up all over Suffolk County since 2007. His victims are referred to as prostitutes by the media have been chopped and stuffed into bags.Authorities investigating the murders actually concluded that this might be the work of 2-4 people based on the recently found remains. Ultimately they figured that Gilgo Beach and the surrounding areas have been used as a dead body dumping site for quite some time now.

Here are the names of the woman whose remains were found in Suffolk County LI:

1. Maureen Brainard-Barnes, a 25 year old from Norwich, Connecticut.

2. Melissa Barthelemy, a 24 year old from Erie County, New York.

3. Megan Waterman, a 22 year old from Scarborough, Maine.

4. Amber Lynn Costello, a 27 year old from North Babylon, New York.

The crimes above were related to woman who had ads up in the erotic services section of Craigslist. There have been numerous murders that were not sexually orientated such as deaths resulting from attempted robberies.

Here are some Craigslist related murder cases that made national news:

Crime: Home Invasion Robbery and First Degree Murder

On this date four individuals Kiyoshi Higashi, Amadna Knight, Clabon Berniard, and Joshua Reese invaded a house shooting 43 year old JIm Sanders. The group responded to an ad and acted interested in the purchase of a ring.

Now that's of course just the smallest fractions of crimes. Craigslist is like a criminal tool available to anyone. The stories are too many to cover but today I unveil the one crime that everyone overlooks or don't seem to know they exist.

Adultery

Through Craigslist personal ads you can get laid easily. Many more men know this then woman, hate to admit it. I have been doing my own little studies and even had a girlfriend of mine to pose as a prostitute and what we encountered was disturbing. There were so many ads place in a short span of time in which married men were willing to pay for sex. They had no shame in their game and many chose not to be discreet. Their occupations were of all kinds, from Burger King workers to sitting Judges. In one case I actually interviewed an escort-prostitute who was paid by sitting judge and lawyer Mark E Salterelli from the city of Tonawanda, NY.

Yes I went there because I personally have the proof

As if that's not disturbing you should check out the men-for-men listings. Everyday thousands of married men so called " curious men " or " straight men " with girlfriends place ads looking for there first experience with another man. It is so common that you if you visited the section of CG you will see it immediately. Also prostitution is fed by married men every minute of the day courtesy of CG ads.

Craigslist founder Craig Newmark does not seemed bothered by these crimes because the regulation of CG is hardly assembled. Flagging ads does nothing for a victim of a crime. I sense that it's a lot of work but something has to be done. There has to be a safer way to run this website to suite the safety of our residents. So many crimes have been tied to CG that it's scary to think about the crimes that go unnoticed.

There is a website dedicated to bringing you the history of CG crimes.

Check out the website @ Craigs Crime List

As of January 2016, there have been a recorded 101 murders committed through the website Craigslist as reported by the Washington Post. It's not the site some might say, it's the people on the sight but it's safe to say that Craigslist is a great tool for criminals of all kinds. Is this site really necessary for Americans and abroad? Please leave a comment and answer this question. Thank you for reading.

The scam site

The most crimes on Craigslist is definitely scams. Scams involving rentals and jobs seem to be on the top of the list. Most people that want you to reply via a text message are scammers. Text Now, an Apple and Android app, makes it possible for these crimes. You download this app for free and it let's you choose an area code and number from any state and you can text and even make calls without using your real information. If someone responds to an ad and it says only text then call the number. If no one picks up and then it goes to voicemail and the voicemail says: this text mail (or text now) customer is not available then they are scammers, be aware.
