My Small Voice, Raised in Protest

This article is my voice raised in Protest!

I am a Senior, a Veteran and I have seen enough of these young RIOTERS tearing our nations history down.

I say, Cut the Destruction and do it now!

We are and have been for centuries now, a diverse nation of many races, religions and ideologies and yes, there have been terrible things done to far too many innocent people over the years we have existed as a Democracy.

It's Just a Protest, Right?

The wonder to me is how easily our politicians released the constraints built into our laws and and now they are allowing a law-breaking minority tear down our institutions and history.

I believe I am witnessing a “Bizzarro World” form of educated Shame! We as a nation are an educated people regardless of race if you consider how poorly so many people are educated in other parts of the world.

And we are all aware of the injustices done to Blacks and other races in our past. And I believe that there is a bit of Shame in everyone’s heart when we all see what certain peoples have had to bear in the past.

I also believe that we, as a nation, are collectively sitting back and not reacting to the continual weeks of destruction that has spread across our nation out of this shame.

But, in my eyes, it has become very hard to sympathize with the original reasoning for the recent protests.

And I am definitely not of a mind to even consider for one moment supporting the extremes of destruction I am now witnessing, weeks later.

What Do We Do Now?

Yes, there is a big But here, and I believe we have reached the point where protesters have gone from protesting to a philosophy of destroying our pasts. Yes, I said our pasts.

It confounds me when I see that people are destroying their history, along with mine, as they feel it is best to erase the past through the destruction of statues, memorials and such, over things done by ancestors over a century ago.

There is no doubt that our past has been a checkered one with great achievements and terrible injustices, many of which have often been performed by the same people.

But, what are you going to do when you want to tell your grandchild about what a certain person in our collective pasts did that was really bad, if you have already destroyed any references, monuments and even history books that tell us about these people?

What are you going to do when most of your neighborhood moves away because there are no local business’ to purchase food and clothing from?

What are you going to do when most of your neighborhood moves away because they have no jobs?

And, what are you going to do when your once proud neighborhood is suddenly referred to as the new “Slum” or “Ghetto”, or Crime Center of the area.

No Plan, No Solution?

Honestly, I don’t have a solution that will, with one clean sweep, make all men equal. empower all women, make all religions respect each other and make everyone proud of their own heritage.

But I do know that after all of these weeks of destruction my heart has been turned from sympathy to frustration.

I believe it’s time to come together and work together for the changes everyone can agree on so that we are all working towards the same goals of Liberty and Equality.

By the way, yes, i did say riots. I no longer see organized protests working towards an actionable goal, but rather what I see are gangs of people waiting for dark so they can slink around and sew destruction.

And as a firm believer in law and order, I now believe we need to empower our law enforcement organizations and instruct them to bring order back to the people and stop the chaos.

Of course, this means that there will be people hurt, on both sides; but really, you would have to be an idiot if you were not already watching people getting hurt, on both sides of the protest lines.

Are most Protesters Rioters; Of Course Not!

Are most Cops Stone Cold Killers; Of Course Not!

In my opinion, it’s time to take our streets back from the enemies of America.

James - The constant appearance of what I now consider bored camera-hungry street gangs who's only real skill is throwing a rope over a statues neck, has become boring to a lot of the people I know.

They're no longer protesting, but rather it seems they are just hanging around waiting for their SUPREME LEADERS to give them GPS directions to the next stupid piece of history to destroy.

Eric - You hit one of the problems I see Blacks ave a t the moment. They and their cause has been damaged. The jokes now abound on the web and even with the media occasionally. Without strong visible leadership who will take over the direction of the Black people's cause, they are so splintered and so focused on useless actions like tearing down old statues. They cannot eat statues, they cannot get better jobs from statues, and those statues will never lead them to better lives.

      What a Shame!

Just a strange thought I keep Don. Should us Muslim, Christian and Jewish folk demand reparations from Egypt. And Italy (Rome) has a lot to answer for. Those Norwegian people need to pay up. And the Spanish and French can never meet the deal. China? Where do they even start. Aztecs and Toltecs?

How could we ever draw the line at a few hundred years here and there.

Shoot my Irish ancestors were slaves under Cromwell. Pay up England.

I don't imagine people really care about other folks.

Eric - What you say is beginning to look like a new reality for these young people.

In my opinion, no amount of violence or inherited feeling of your ancestors having been wronged can justify destruction and violence in a civilized society.

      Have a Great Day,

Eric, Don some of the most dangerous situations I have been in is when gang members start laughing. And that is what these folks are.

Eric - Sadly, As I watch the news feeds of the rioters, the more people I now see who are smiling and joking around with each other.

Has political correctness shriveled up and left just groups of party-goers who are just looking for their "15-minutes" of fame provided by the media?

Somehow the images of the Taliban blowing up statues got burned in my mind. Well they keep coming back now. Sad. I keep ringing the same bell, if they are sincere, build their own.

But these riots are just so dead wrong it hurts.

I wonder why some of us are "beat down every day" and most in that same group are not. Hmm? Could it be a victim identification deal?

GreenMind - Of course we whites, as a whole are not as aware as they should be on how Blacks are and have been treated. I have lived three quarters of a century and I grew up working on my relatives farms side by side with many blacks. I was in the first segregated class of my high school in '62. I have watched so much that was wrong, but I had to write this because I feel that the image being presented of Blacks is too radical. But, I'm just one old White guy who thinks the destruction has taken on an atmosphere that will not be remembered positively, in the long run.

      Have a Great Day,

Hi Don. Thanks for writing this and expressing yourself with such passion. I want to push back about one thing, though. You say, "And we are all aware of the injustices done to Blacks and other races in our past." Is that true? Are all Americans aware to the same degree? It seems to me that the current unrest exists because all Americans are not aware of our true history, and are not aware of what it's like to go through your day, day after day, as a person of color.
