Game, Set & Match
The Home Stretch
This is the home stretch of the 2012 Presidential Campaign Season, it's 6-1, 6-3 and 5-4 with the republicans holding on at 40 - 15 and democrats are serving. With quiet desparation they're hoping that President Obama and the democrats don't come up with three aces (unforced errors) for the win, because they're trying to tie the set at 5-5 to give themselves a better chance at the come from behind victory in the match. But with the third and final presidential debate coming on tonight and election day rapidly approaching, on November 6th a mere 15 days away. To say that they the Republicans (Tea) Party are worried would be a tremendously gross understatment.
In spite of the tennis metaphor the way I see it, there's a very sharp contrast for the choices in this the 2012 Presidential Election cycle. There's President Obama, who's looking out for the middle class, working poor, lower income wage earners and everyone else for that matter or Mitt Romney a rich plutocrat that genuinely looks down at those (47%) less fortunate than he is. Now as Americans we can choose to elect either man, because it's one of those uninalienable rights afforded to us under the US Constitution.
To some it might seem that I am biased towards President Obama, you don't have to believe me but some of the things Mitt Romney says. As a filmmaker/screenwriter, I couldn't make this stuff up on my best day. Maybe on my second best just kidding, but in all seriousness would you really want someone flip-floppy like Mitt Romney in control of our nation's military or missle launch codes? Here's a real shock to the system without a doubt, his lack of finesse in foreign affairs along with a majority of George W. Bush's foreign policy advisors on staff we'd almost certainly end up going into another boots on the ground WAR in the Middle East.
With all of the animosity directed towards President Obama by the Republicans is in my opinion based more on his father's ethnicity moreso than party ideology. While his father is or was from Kenya he didn't really have his father in his life growing up. So his single middle class caucasian mother struggle to raise her two kids the best she could, with a little help and support from her parents. This is evident by the rise of the birther movement and the questioning of the legitimacy of his citizenship.
But back in April 1961 the US Government was dealing with the potential threat of nuclear war with the Bay of Pigs in Cuba not a bi-racial kid born in Hawaii. So for all of you birthers out there, get over it. He's the legitimate President/Command in Chief of these United States of America. His grandparents picture above are as American as apple pie and baseball. They're represented the working / middle class then as their legacy does today from the Oval Office, so deal with it. By the way he's gotten some important things done despite all of the Republic (Tea) Party rhetoric & obstructionist tendencies in the Congress.
Things like the Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, ordering the death of Bin Laden, saving the American automobile industry, prevented a total financial meltdown and his crown jewel the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. Obamacare) which by the way is a modified Republican concept. It's working in Massachusetts and it will work for America as it does there, that really burns their britches that he outmaneuvered their best efforts to stop him. They probably would've tried to use the same principles with only a slight modification if Mitt Romney gets himself elected. Although highly unlikely but not totally beyond the realm of possibility. I hope all of the average Americans are paying attention on election day, because the republicans will bamboozle or leave you in the dust as they wrench every dime they can get from you.
