Give a Hand-up, Not a Hand-out!

homelessness is a huge problem! How can you really help?
homelessness is a huge problem! How can you really help?

Welfare is a big topic. There are so many able bodied people who just don't want to work, so they somehow get on welfare. That's not fair to working taxpayer. Then there are the people who have babies and go on welfare, and have more babies, to get more welfare. It's a big issue. However, there are always those who slip through the cracks. Those who need help but don't know where to go! They are looking to make a better life for themselves(and most likely their children too), they just need a hand-up! But, not a hand out. Where do they start?

Like to run? Check out back on my feet:

What better way to help those close to homelessness, get a hand up! This organization helps restore the confidence of the people they serve. They help those who are homeless, or are close to it, secure employment and housing. How do they do it, well they hit the ground running! This program is not a hand out, a hand out doesn't really help. You work just as hard to get back up. They require that you run three times a week for 30 days. Then you can move up to the next phase and get more resources. 80% get on to phase two! 90% stay employed! 60% even receive wage increases at their jobs. How cool is that?! Way to help our fellow man!

Domestic violence: One site to connect with shelters all over the nation! womensshelters.org

So many women who are victims of domestic violence stay in their dangerous situations, because they don't know where to go! This is awful! No one should have to live in a home with domestic violence. However, there is help. Womensshelter.org has a site that can connect you to shelters all over the country. They aren't only shelters though. They can also connect women to half way houses, should a problem with addiction be in the mix too. The main goal, is to get these women, and their families back on their feet!

Professional wardrobes for women: womengivingback.org

It's time for that interview! But, I literally have nothing to wear....you do so much work to get back on your feet and you finally have the interview! But, you have to make a good first impression. How are you going to do that without nice clothes. Women giving back is a charity out of VA that helps women get that professional wardrobe, to help them land that job! Though they are based out of VA there are many charities around the country that help women obtain a nice work wardrobe, to help them get back on their feet.

So many think it is the governments job to 'help' the poor. However, and hand out only increases dependence on the government. From there it increases the entitlement mentality so many on welfare have. That helps no one, especially the American taxpayer. There are so many ways to help your fellow man without giving a hand out. I feel these charities need recognition for the help they provide to not only those in need, but to society as a whole.
