HOW To Sing-A-Long

Updated on July 19, 2015
CrisSp profile image

CrisSp is your Emergency Specialist at 37 thousand feet. A writer without a niche. Surely, wonderwoman consumed by wanderlust!

H.O.W. - stands for Humanity One World created to increase awareness and to spread the words on HUMANITY as initiated by our fellow hubber Billybuc. To show our support, come sing-along with me. Because, as per another Billy:

"Music in itself is healing. It's an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we're from, everyone loves music." - Billy Joel

Source
Source

Since the creation of my Jukebox Page on Facebook, I am on constant search for soulful music to post not only for my listening pleasure but in considering what my followers would like to listen to as well. I love music. We all do and as Confucius say: “Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without.”

Now, while listening to some of my favorite oldies but goodies, it reminded me of how some of these songs powerfully speak of humanity.

Language may cause as a barrier for communication but music is a universal language. Although some may carry hard to imagine words like death, murder, terror, destruction, it also speaks about some beautiful words that we all understand and doesn’t need further explanation: love and everything else it means to be human in a language we all know.

Source
Source

Gangnam Style

Take for example the latest craze, Gangnam Style, a pop single sung by South Korean musician in his own language. If you haven’t heard it yet, check the video below. "Gangnam Style" is a Korean neologism, which refers to a lifestyle associated with the Gangnam District in Seoul, Korea. It has hit a world record in YouTube for the most like song and as of today, the music video has already been viewed 861 million times on YouTube. The lyrics of the song might be none-sense for those who do not understand Korean language, but we sing in chorus whenever we hear the song playing and we dance in troop (or alone).

Why? Because music indeed is a universal language. It bridges the cultural divide and all bears mutual feelings of happiness, sadness and fears, which are all basic human feelings. When we hear Gangnam Style, we go autopilot and dance because the song is calling for us to dance (along) and for the entire human race to be happy.

Gangnam Style Around The World~

Source

"An eye for an eye will make us all blind" – M. Gandhi

The spirit is there and the bottom line, some of these songs are calling for love and the search for the true meaning of humanity. Because apparently, humanity is dying, morality is low and we all suffer. We all suffer from something that none of us want.

Humanity has been dehumanized. Humanity is in turmoil. The universe is in chaos. Why? Because greed and selfish desire has taken over humanity. Slavery is rampant. People are in pain, starving and dying. People get murdered for no reason. Whatever happened to moral obligation? There is disobedience of authority and yet we say, “peace brother”. Guns and roses will never solve the crime but music has the ability to move us and keep us at peace.

So, we express ourselves through songs against humanity’s selfish plight that is on the rise. The world is twisted because the faith of human being has become twisted. What was once plain and simple has now become a rather complicated case. We are weaker and the world is full of hatred, lies and deceit. So, Whatever happened to the cornerstones of humanity? Humanity will completely die and therefore, it needs you and me to protect it and rebuild it. We can speak up and take actions in many different ways, in the most simplest but sincere act of love and kindness and we can all sing a song to do that.

Does it really have to hurt to be human? This may be considered a very hypothetical question but to enlighten us a bit in a most gentle way, here’s a look at how some of our favorite music can affect us humans and how these artistic renditions of love towards humanity can change the life we live and the world we live in. Come, sing along with me in the hope that we can keep the gift of life alive through songs:

1. Humanity by Scorpions

Thoughts to ponder from the song:

"Humanity - You sold your soul to feed your vanity. Your fantasies and lies."

2. Heal The World by Michael Jackson

Thoughts to ponder from the song:

"Heal The World. Make It A Better Place. For You And For Me and The Entire Human Race."

3. We Are The World – United Artists

Thoughts to ponder from the song:

"There comes a time when we heed a certain call. When the world must come together as one."

4. Do They Know It’s Christmas Time by Band Aid

Thoughts to ponder from the song:

"And in our world of plenty, we can spread a smile of joy! Throw your arms around the world at Christmas time (and always)."

5. War is Over (Happy Christmas) by John Lennon

Thoughts to ponder from the song:

"So, this is Christmas and what have you done, another year over and a new one just begun."

Which one of the five songs knock your heart out?

See results

Did you enjoy the music? Did you have goose bumps while listening to the songs? Did you cry real tears; get carried away? Did you feel the anguish in the first song (Humanity) and the wake up call from the second song (Heal the World)? What did the third song (We Are The World) teach you? Did you hear how the fourth (Do They Know It’s Christmas Time) and the last (War is Over-Happy Christmas) songs are calling us not to deny humanity but to embrace it and to help each other regardless of our differences? Did you see the spiritual cause in the song and the cry to reach out for humanity? If you did, what now?

We don’t even have to be a fan of any of these artists to notice the pattern of the song that have recurred all through out? If you didn’t have the time to listen to all these songs at once, you can always come back. But, I encourage you to listen and I mean listen and not skip it. Because music at least for a minute will find its way to delete the dilemma and only when you completely listen to the songs, you will understand the pain of humanity and that these songs carries heartfelt messages for you—for us, the human race.

Then, we’ll all understand that across the nation, through out all cultures, there is alienation, greed, jealousy, suffering because we’ve lost the core of humanity –that is love. Music has no boundary, no color, and no race and in a much broader context, it signifies only two things: love and the lack of it. So, what better way to convey the message that all we need is love? Through music…it inspires us, it motivates us and hopefully we’ll do what we are called for—spread the love.

And in pursuit of humanity, can we not agree on peaceful co-existence and simply sing-along?

We believe in music. Don’t we all? What about our faith in humanity? Have we lost it yet? No, I don’t think so. Sometimes, all we need is some tapping because we tend to forget. After all, we’re only human and we make mistakes. And again, if we listen to the songs carefully, it’s the world tapping us, telling us to come out and put our faith back in humanity.

Final Thoughts:

“I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any fellow creature let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again.” - unknown

So, here’s to humanity today and always! “One love, one heart, one destiny.” - Bob Marley. ♫ ♫

The finale ~ONE LOVE. Enjoy!

Be kind to one another. ♥ ♥ ♥

Wow, that's a collectors' item Audra. That's an awesome keep for as long as it's working. I have a lot of home videos that is now in the storage and wanting to convert them into CD's but I was told it's expensive. I'd love to someday have the opportunity to watch them all again--will need a VCR player for that.

Thank you for gracing my Sunday afternoon. I am pleased to know that you are enjoying the music this humble hubber is providing.

really touching, really making me ponder and ponder how our humanity, but still you gave us a hope, which we still hold on to :) Some of us still fill the world with their smiles, peace, and love, and it's them who are holding the world together. Music is the language that speaks to us all, and never fails us, when we're soliciting some kind of relief, thank you so much for this great hub ;)

GNR, Lennon, and the rest...bring us together with their music...brings out the humanity!

Please continue to bring music to our hearts in video, through yor words in your hubs, and on your jukebox page! You bring joy to us all!

@MizBejabbers, Oh I see, the theory of 666. Thanks for the clarification.

    • MizBejabbers profile image

      MizBejabbers 4 years ago

I understand your shock and I probably should have elaborated a little more. The Baptist Church, a Southern Baptist Convention church, that I attended taught that there would be a one-world government with a one-world religion led by the Anti-Christ (you've heard of the 666), and that we go to Hell if we participated in it. However, at the same time, their missionaries were working hard to spread their faith worldwide (nongovernmental), and they did make that distinction. The church did not understand that the two could be united under love and not under the Anti-Christ. I think this is the reason so many of our nuts like the White Supermacists and Aryan Nation are fighting so hard to retain our non-involvement in the world and to keep out people of other religions and color.

That is why I was wondering if we need to retrain some of our churches. I know that many like the Unity and the Unitarian are working in harmony for worldwide love.

      Dear MizBejabbers,

"Are the churches still teaching against this?" -- I am honestly surprised to hear that, shocked I'd say! I mean, the church was teaching that we should work against becoming "one world"? WHAT? Really?

Well, I'm a Catholic Christian but not that religious. I pray and I have faith and a more direct relationship with the big guy up there. Honestly, I don't know much about our the church now a days.

Thank you for coming by. Happy to provide a little bit of entertainment here through my little contribution to the H.O.W. project. I really do appreciate your feedback.

I've always loved "We are the world," but I think this is the most beautiful I have ever heard.

~"There comes a time when we heed a certain call. When the world must come together as one."~

Are the churches still teaching against this? I ask because I have left the church. When I was a child in the Baptist Church, I was taught that we should work against becoming "one world". Maybe we should start by trying to teach our churches about love.

I've been wondering about the Gangnam Style phenomena and surprised to see the dancers from around the world.
