What's on your mind, when you asked “ How deep in your love for your country?”
Have you ever heard that the nationalism between younger generation not as deep as the previous generation. As we know that right now is modern era. They are not holding a gun to defend the country from attack another nation. like my country attacked by the Dutch and Japanese. or when the America attacked by the British. Maybe the previous generation had a responsibility to follow the military compulsory. This is required if at any time other nations attacked the country. Patriotism and nationalism are the same side, both are needed to better love our country.
How to measure it
Actually measure of our love for the country is similar to the measure of our love for our spouse. There is a simple quotes : "If you don't know, you also wouldn't love". How can we claim to love the country if we do not know our own country. At least we accept a variety of differences, such as ethnicity, language, religion, etc. Instead, measure the love of the country can't judge from the outside. Like always put the flag ahead of independence celebrations. But this is small action to show that we love our country. in other words measuring love of the country have a bigger relativity.
Don't forget the history
All things there always be the history behind it. Independence of a nation there must be a struggle to achieve it. We know that from the history. We can read, looking for the information, and perhaps there was living proof who involve in battle or as a witness. This can increased the feeling of love for our country, And adding a sense of ownership for our country. dig up information is also important to follow those who give big contribution to the state. and we can imitate him.The real heroes are always humble.
I always teach to my student about nationalism. They have to know who is the first president. We can find the first president in the history lesson. Actually the kid want to know much about it, it proven that they ask me much than I expected.
Accepting differences
When we love our spouse, we have to accept her differences. In the nation life we were surrounded by differences. Racism sometimes becomes a problem. Such as a white people, black people. There are minority and majority in our society. Why we don't unite and eliminate all differences into a peaceful nation. Together we support our country. Action required than talking.
Start from small things
Maybe we don't know the history of our country. But we are not aware our tears fall when listening to national anthem. There is a simple thing we can do to raise our nationalism. like:
- Grow large tolerance, which requires the maturity to think and act.
- Doing the small things, such as keeping the environment clean, taking out the trash in its place.
- Don't easily to believe the issues related to race, discrimination, religion and between social classes, before checking the truth.
Do we ready when our country attack by the enemies? When it really happen, do we ready to defend our country? at this moment our nationalism or patriotism being tested. It back to us. I hope we can open our eyes about the sense of nationalism and sense of patriotism.
