If your response to “Black lives matter” is “ALL lives matter” then congratulations, you missed the point.

Updated on June 1, 2020

Listen up and listen good.

It’s not about one group of people being more important than another. It’s about dismantling the idea that one group is more important than the other.

Maybe if I, a pasty ass white cis woman, say it this way, you’ll actually listen and get it. Because you sure as hell aren’t listening to anyone of any other skin color.

So, I’m a fat, white, cis woman. As such I get inferior medical care than a physically fit white cis woman and she gets inferior medical care than a white cis man.

I still get superior medical care than anyone of any physical shape and gender that is any skin color other than white.

And that is NOT right.

I could drive 100 MPH down the freeway waving a dismembered head or limb out my car window and have a trunk full of explosives, covered in blood, and the cops would still try to take me alive simply because I am whiter than a fish belly.

But George Floyd, who happened to have a counterfeit $20 bill, that he no doubt got at another store at some point, was murdered in cold blood by one racist cop while three other racist cops stood by and did nothing.

I could actually rob a construction site and no one would bat an eye. In fact, many would probably say that I was “obviously down on my luck and struggling” (as people in my own home town have said about many a white person stealing copper from construction sites and the like). Heck, some people would probably try to start a GoFundMe for me.

Ahmaud Arbery got murdered in cold blood by two racists while a 3rd racist filmed it when he stole nothing. He was just jogging. Nothing more. Worse, people try to say his murderers are “good, Christian men.” Trust me, there’s nothing Christian about them. Christ would come after Ahmaud’s murderers with way more than just a whip.

Hell, there’s still people who think the Hispanic babysitter that never actually existed killed Caylee Anthony because they don’t want to believe a white woman like Casey could’ve murdered her own child. Sure, more people believe the grandfather did it, but it doesn’t change the fact that there are people who believe a person who never actually existed did it simply because that imaginary person isn’t white.

And it’s not just in America and it’s not just people who are black who are treated as if their life is worth less simply because of their skin color. It’s happening all over the world. Even in those countries who try and claim they’re better than America while they sweep their own institutionalized racism under the rug.

When people say “Black lives matter” it isn’t saying that their lives are worth more than white lives, Indigenous lives, Hispanic lives, etc.

They’re saying right now the way things stand our society has decided that people with paler skin color are worth more.

Do you get it now?
